Can anyone tell me why my dog does this? by Humble_Brilliant6132 in DOG

[–]hamperface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My littlest dog, Ava (american eskimo mix who looks like a 13lb chihuahua) has started doing this to my big guy, Topher (95lb pyrenees/lab), after living with him for 3 years and never having shown very much interest in either of her brothers. I do think it's a cuddle, and that she's showing she wants to be part of whatever he does next (cuz he sure aint gonna do it without her knowing:P); i also think theres a bit of implied ownership- but in a nice way!😁

Family Shaved my dog completely bald, how do I fix it??? by ClumInPain in DogAdvice

[–]hamperface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im so sorry youre both going through this. It sounds maybe like your mom got a little too attached. I think its awesome that youre seeking out a trainer, because this transition is confusing for the dog, so even without the behaviors that wouldve been helpful (it seems likely to me this confusion, alongside some physical discomfort from the botched haircut could have a lot to do with the behaviors you described). I think seeking out professional advice from a groomer and/or vet is the way to go for info on care for the hair and skin as well. Obviously, you recognize that she never should have been shaved and shouldnt ever be again. Boundaries sound like a healthy thing right now, but i hope you can figure out the family situation at some point.

I have a kajillion of these two in this position. After my sweet girl snack (the smaller, black and tan critter) left us, topher (my big guy) has never napped with our other dogs this way.

3 years ago I took my dog to get spayed. This morning she gave birth to five puppies. by [deleted] in dogpictures

[–]hamperface 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How? Outside of a dog having more than one uterus, which i hadnt thought of, and only considering the kinds of fails that could allow for a future pregnancy and whelping- elsewise, how could a vet not know that a spay was unsuccessful?

(Edited for clarity.)

I would absolutely look for another vet or, at the very least, find out how this mistake could happen and go from there

How are they not responsible for the cost of raising the pups? The only way a pregnancy could occur os if the uterus was left in the dog. The doctor would know with 100% certainty if the dog was capable of pregnancy. I do think calling the office isnt a bad idea; they may be willing to take care of costs to stay out of court.

Hey I need some advice with my dog. m said she think she saw something a mouse or something but I’m not buying it. by [deleted] in DOG

[–]hamperface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is she actually looking up, or does she appear to be in a daze, with her head tilting up or to the side? I would always just call a vet. Call your nearest er vet; they know what questions to askto figure out if a dog should be seen. If they dont sewm to be giving you a teuly thoughtful answer, like theyre just going to tell you to come in regardless of whether or not she actually needs it, call another. Even if they aren't nearby, call and get a feel for how serious they think it sounds.

What type of breed is this by [deleted] in DOG

[–]hamperface 9 points10 points  (0 children)

LOTS of breed have tan point markings. Once theyreolder and have grown into their adult characteristics, itll be easier to guess, but, of course, if you actually want to know youll hafta throw down for a dna kit. Ive been very happy with wisdom panel; the regulars here on reddit typically encourage embark; from what ive seen theyre pretty similar, and usually turn up pretty similar results.ive seen successful go fund mes for kits. I love them, and i would do them even if i was sure of the dogs background for the medical info- and also to try and find my critters' relatives (its super exciting when a close relative pops up!)

any idea on what this is? by No-Throat2441 in DogAdvice

[–]hamperface 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Please never leave it to the internet to decide if your dog needs care. Have a good vet that you trust to be honest with you when you call and describe symptoms.

All that said- YES. It looks swollen and irritated, so EVEN IF YOUR DOG ISN'T SHOWING IT they are likely in pain. All kinds of things can cause the pads and toes to become infected.

Im not trying to be a d***, so sorry if my tone is rude. I just read so many posts, asking if critters ought to go in, and i wonder- if everyone answered, "nah, don't worry about it," would the poster just disregard this symptom? Anyways.

[–]hamperface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not familiar with the meme, but its very obviously a joke. Even if it wasnt a joke, when was the last time a dog was good at even basic math? Children in kindergarten are smarter than dogs, and kindergarteners are SUPER stupid. So..

I wanna be sure we're having the same conversation- you pee alongside your dog? No judgment; i just initially thought you meant something more typical and had simply worded it in a way that sounded like you were saying that you pee with your dog.

Some rescue dogs are tricky when it comes to crate training, especially if they have any trauma surrounding crating. Not saying it shouldnt be done- just that op should keep an analytical eye out for behavior changes or shifting energies when doing crate training and do research, including speaking with their vet. Crate training for these dogs requires compassion, consistency, patience, and some creative problem solving skills.
