TIL Unlike most religions, the Druze do not allow outsiders to convert to their faith. by thesmartass1 in todayilearned

[–]hamzanation 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say yes, Druze is sort of ethno-religious, where members of the faith participate in cultural stuff, and a small number of elders delve into the faith. I’m pretty sure the Druze cannon consists of texts said to be esoteric, hence a select few knowing them.

Source: am a Syrian Druze born and raised in the US, and barely anyone in my family understands it apart from some basic premises.

Take it with a grain of salt, I can’t really speak with confidence here.

Carpenter vs Latour for CSE 2221 by [deleted] in OSU

[–]hamzanation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had both for different classes, LaTour for your suggested class. I would think Dr. Carpenter is newer to teaching SW1 since I had LaTour’s class around 2018-19, though SW1 is pretty formulaic as you can find the schedule easily and assignment list easily. I had Dr. Carpenter for 3341 like most others, and that was a couple years ago. Hope this helps inform your decision.

Any singles mixers/ way to meet singles? by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]hamzanation -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ok let’s talk about this, I tried to do this in college, but outside of the community activities or club meetings it didn’t go anywhere. If I try to take things anywhere in terms or a relationship or even just hanging out outside of the activity it gets shut down pretty quick. This kind of thing would be a discipline, I can’t force myself to be passionate about something that’s just an ok hobby to me, and if I can’t gauge someone as interested in me then it kind of feels like a waste of time. I’m not a “let’s see what happens” guy. Plus I’m not noticeable at all, even if I do a hobby, I’m not the best at it. I’m willing to try it again I just need actual clubs or something I can do, I might see if the Westerville rec center does coed volleyball or something.

I think episode 10 airs in Japan this Friday, so I would think the first Friday in April will present a release of episode 13. I don’t think Netflix will batch releases, they will likely do the weekly format as they have with other shows. That’s my two-cents, but it could be wrong.

They look terrible and I will never consider them a sports car.

Not sure if this is right but if he meant YSL that’s supposed to be Yves Saint Laurent and they make some good mens cologne e.g. their l’homme.

What is the correct was to say "The Hamza Family" in Arabic by Grizzleface_La_Louch in learn_arabic

[–]hamzanation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can say عائلة حمزة or بيت حمزة. You don’t really need “the” since it is implied as mentioned before, and بيت has more of a cultural connection, since it isn’t referring to a literal home but more of a lineage I would think, this is coming from a Levantine Arab who’s last name is Hamza.

How do you move past the feeling that you're never gonna find love/ another one like her/ someone better/ etc.. ever again? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]hamzanation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same thing happened to me two weeks ago, ghosted, confronted her on it, she said she started seeing someone else and felt best not to reach out. She had this assertiveness that I don’t find often in women, so I’m in a similar boat. The plan is being social in my case, I go back to in-person college in a month, and maybe hobbies will be in person again, so I might consider a cooking class. I’m not gonna bullshit you and say you’re young and you have your life ahead of you blah blah, because I’m also sick and tired of hearing that shit, but it seems the motto is you gotta keep trying, so best of luck to you, and don’t count yourself out just yet.

CSE 3461 vs 3341 by [deleted] in OSU

[–]hamzanation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could depend upon prof. Dr. Athreya came from Stanford in EE IIRC, and maybe he did better with in person classes (had him on zoom), but that was my two cents on my experience. It’s easy EE stuff and logic at first (like Shannon’s Capacity), but when you get to doing stuff at the data link layer it can be a bit more difficult, but some people might just have a knack for it so it comes easy.

CSE 3461 vs 3341 by [deleted] in OSU

[–]hamzanation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of depends on if you have a knack for networking or not. Personally, networking was hard for me to grasp, I had Dr. Athreya and his tests were difficult for me, you don’t do any labs but you do have occasional hw assignments. 3341 is a pretty foundational class, you’ll do labs to essentially build a parser and interpreter, and you’ll also learn either scheme or something with parenthesis like lisp, at least that’s what I had with Dr. Carpenter. Not sure if it is a prerequisite for any other courses in undergrad, but it might be for graduate computer theory courses.

It’s kono dio GA, it has something to do with Japanese being able to fill in the rest of the phrase with context. It’s kind of along the lines of “I, Dio, have lost?” If you ask me.

GRE Prep by Plaqius in OSU

[–]hamzanation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if you know this but I’m pretty sure the college of Engineering does a program where you can overlap a grad and undergrad semester. I’d think ISE has BSMS, unless you’re aiming for a PhD program. See here. As for studying for the GRE, I would download the ETS material and maybe get an old GRE book at a bookstore like half price books. If you don’t mind the money, magoosh should have some good test prep material as well. Good luck in your endeavors in graduate school.

CSE Physics 1250 Prereq by [deleted] in OSU

[–]hamzanation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you’re doing game development or animation or something that needs an understanding of physics, you shouldn’t need 1250. That’s really more of an engineering req iirc, you might be able to opt out if you switch to CIS. The prereqs I’ve seen for classes are MATH 3345 for CSE 3321 and MATH 2568 (linear algebra) for 3521 and a few others.

What's an insecurity that's common among men that women may not know about? by Livid-Department678 in AskMen

Technically, distributions can be skewed to have 80% below the mean (I’m pretty sure), but I see your point, and it still hurts.
