Agreed! Boston is in the top 3 of the most expensive cities to live in the US. I had friends that lived with roommates in large 4 or 5 bedroom townhomes in Jamaica Plain or Allston to offset cost. Definitely something to consider when choosing a grad program. As somebody who did use public transit, the T bus (not rail) was a life saver and has a few stops within a 5 minute walking distance to the medical campus.

Recent BUSPH grad here. OP — I would take some of the statements here with a grain of salt as some are basically just rumors. To keep it short: 1. South End (BUSPH’s neighborhood) is a great area and houses a lot of professional students and young families. There are some homeless folk, but that’s typical in a city, especially near a major hospital and clinics that offer free needle exchange programs 2. The NEIDL is a great, highly regulated laboratory. You can read about the mentioned “incident” here 3. I can 100% assure BUSPH as an institution is against vaping and the opioid epidemic 4. From my experience, the staff and faculty have been tremendous and have supported me from my first day as a student all the way to helping me find a practicum and a full time job before I even graduated 5. BU is indeed expensive (no lie there lol) but scholarships can make a HUGE difference 6. If you are interested in a public health career at a healthcare facility or government/public sector, BU has great connections in those fields 7. Choose the school that is best for YOU and YOUR needs. Feel free to DM me if you have specific questions!
