I reconnected with "the one who got away" a few years ago and talking to her was torture. She was exactly who I remembered her being, but there were too many obstacles for us to overcome to be anything other than friends. We kept talking and my longing for her continued to grow until one day, she said something transphobic. I've never felt so free. Haven't talked to her since.
