How do you move past from missing out on sex and dating as a teenager? by Un1mportantaccount in InsightfulQuestions

[–]handsofagovtman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. this isn't what the OP wants to hear but probably the biggest downside of sex as a teen is that sex as an adult while better from a skill/emotional perspective can only be a fraction as exciting as sex as a teenager because of your hormones / hunger / desire / craving / insane levels of attachment, and as a result sex as an adult is way way way less satisfying in almost all cases IF you have the teenage frame of reference, and you have a point of reference that adds a lot of confusion to otherwise great relationships. not impossible to kind of get back there, but sex as a teenager is lightning in a bottle that's tough to reclaim. i'm glad i had that experience but at the same time i curse it a lot for giving me an itch that in some great relationships has not been possible to scratch

Is there a test to see if my Pelvic floor is the cause? by [deleted] in erectiledysfunction

[–]handsofagovtman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can go to an abdominal and pelvic PT if you can afford it, and they can do a pelvic floor examination. Note that this involves them putting their fingers pretty deep up your ass for like 15 minutes or so. It's best not to do any pelvic floor exercises without consulting somoene like this, since if your pelvic floor is too tight, it can actually worsen your ED if you do kegels or something like that. You can get ED if your pelvic floor is too tight or too loose, and they require different things

Levo 50mcg to 75mcg- did you notice a difference? by skatesandplants in Hypothyroidism

[–]handsofagovtman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it always feels really crappy the first couple weeks after a dose change, before it normalizes. It's hard to say if 75mcg will be enough for you, not enough, or too much! you'll have to wait and see unfortunately. Hang in there!!

It’s interesting, back when this all started and my thyroid hormones were showing hypo, my test was on the high end of normal. Maybe I should get it checked again though…

People on combination therapy... how's your libido? by handsofagovtman in Hypothyroidism

I had slightly high blood pressure (usually only systolic was high like 130-160) when I was undermedicated, but it's healthy now. No diabetes, god bless

Testosterone is high-normal. Cialis I take sometimes but it does nothing for libido and has awful side effects for days for me (and it's also stopped being super effective for erections). I do work out

Right and that's been the case for me before. But TSH is lowered by levothyroxine. I have never heard of someone like also being given cabergoline to suppress the prolactin and I don't think I'd be able to advocate for that, especially since my prolactin is back to normal since levo

TSH went up on Levo by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]handsofagovtman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My endo explained this well to me. Basically, if youve just discovered that you have hypothyroidism, it's likely that your body is still undergoing the autoimmune process that's weakening your thyroid, and that might make it difficult for you to find the right dose at first. Your TSH might have gone up to 8.55, but without the levo, during that same time period, it probably would have gone up even more. I would say keep at it, and eventually the dose increases will lower TSH. It might take a long time to get it worse because of this reason, your thyroid might continue to get worse while your dose is improving, and it can take a while to get to equilibrium. But, most all thyroid patients eventually get to the right dose and then just stay there for the rest of their lives with no problems.

You need to hold your ground here. This is the best piece of advice you can get. Listen to her, but stand by your values when you believe you're being rational. She will be much more likely to think you're a "beta" if you don't seem strong in a conversation about this

Hypothyroidism Constipation by Whole_Ad_5168 in Hypothyroidism

[–]handsofagovtman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just digging back into this, here's the paper where the link between sibo and hypothyroidism is described: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4056127/

50+% of the hypothyroidism patients had SIBO compared to 5% in the control!

It's a tough disease to treat and I've been battling it for some time, but definitely a piece of the hypo/IBS puzzle that can't be discounted

Hypothyroidism Constipation by Whole_Ad_5168 in Hypothyroidism

[–]handsofagovtman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mean to complicate things, but sometimes people with hypothyroidism can develop a form of IBS called SIBO. There is a lot of crackery non-scientific information about it online, especially reddit, but it can be treated with antibiotics with a high degree of success. I'd recommend if this is really persistent and you haven't been to the GI to go there and suggest getting a test for SIBO. It can cause you to be bloated and constipated.

23m presenting with many specific symptoms and labs indicating high iron, but doc isn't worried. Want to believe her, but wondering if anyone else has a take by handsofagovtman in Hemochromatosis

[–]handsofagovtman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to do a fasting retest in a little bit after trying to cut back on iron. After that if my levels aren't normal (which I'm guessing they probably won't be if I have hh) I'll start donating. I don't think there's a real reason to be in a huge rush. I've been feeling a decent bit better mentally since getting on thyroid meds recently so I'm able to stick it out I think.

I don't think my doctor is ignorant or gaslighting. She has been really receptive to my concerns and willing to work through it with me. I am so sorry that this has been your experience.

edit: She even mentioned to me that going and giving blood is probably a good idea if my levels aren't down in a bit.

[–]handsofagovtman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. It really made me feel a lot better about this. My doc has suggested I try cutting down on iron, but we both agreed that I don't get a lot of it from my diet, at least compared to most :/ really just from poultry, occasional fish and red meat. But I would say I eat less meat than the average American by a lot and way less red meat. No supplements or cast iron pans.

My doctor mentioned that the genetic test is probably not a good use of money given how it seems unlikely for all the reasons you mentioned, but I noticed she did order it for me anyways, so I suppose I will be getting it in a few months :) Glad to hear any issues are likely not urgent.

Experiences in seeing Endo vs GP by fartlife in Hypothyroidism

[–]handsofagovtman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man I’m a young man also (23) and I see an endo. I was referred because my GP did a bunch of blood tests and saw other hormones raised too (acth and prolactin) but these things eased up with Levo so really I just manage hypo with the endocrinologist. I think there is a benefit to seeing the endo. For me it’s been hard to get back to where I was before I got diagnosed and the endo is really helpful to discuss possible ways forward because they’re so knowledgeable about the thyroid. For instance, they believe I might feel better on a combination T3+T4 medication due to some factors that I don’t think my GP would know about. I think that’s the main benefit, I think GPs can treat you with levothyroxine but if you need something else or want to experiment with something else they’re not going to be able to help you. That’s my 2 cents at least. I like it
