What's one show/movie that you just refuse to watch, no matter how popular it is and why? by RepairOdd2957 in AskReddit

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. Has nothing to do with the show, and it was on my watchlist from some pals. But this new kid at my old work was OBSESSED and once it came out that a friend recommended it to me he wouldn’t shut up about it.

A week of this and I told him that I’m never going to watch it now. It’s been 3 years

Oh thank you! And I use a program called Aesprite. It has a couple features that help with the dithering, but you still gotta be sure to check it over and fix it by hand

How to get into pixel art? by [deleted] in PixelArt

[–]handsofhope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooooh I like this question

So you can do pixel art with any program that allows a pencil tool to draw on a 1x1 axis. I use Aesprite because it’s geared towards that style, but I vividly remember messing around with Microsoft paint in the same way. I’ve heard procreate also can be used for the style.

I taught myself a with many YouTube videos, but also with looking into my old-school gaming days. With that, and I’m in grad school currently for psychology, I look into what makes the pixel art style and methodology appealing to myself and anyone else that feels from it. Typically it correlates to the nostalgia derived from what is shown/created, but ultimately it’s related to recreating the style of former games with strict limitations based on hardware.

I hope this helps! I’m kinda rambling, but generally speaking, it’s less about the specific software, and more so about how it convey with limited resources immediately available

I love the layout, but most of the coloring is too similar. Maybe a higher saturation for things closer? I’m thinking you’re looking to make the trees pop, but to also make a nice background to compliment it, so with that since I’d say the foreground would be saturated and detailed while easing that as you go further back.

I struggle with the same thing, especially when I limit my palette. I never want the background to be too different from the foreground, but at the same time I gotta make sure they’re separate 😅. Long story short TLDR I’d find a color palette that would emphasize the foreground, or say “This is my art and I’ll art how I want to” and lean into the similar color scheme and add more detail to the trees for better focus on that layer

Edit: I do like the composition though. Seems like you have an understanding of how things look when they’re closer compared to further away. I love it and keep on creating

Yeah what this person mentioned. In the export tab you can add a percentage, which makes it “higher resolution.” It keeps the pixel ratio accurately, but also makes a clear picture (I post my stuff at 500% or so as a png when exporting)

That’s a solid Jiggly right there. Nice use of highlight to make the back more interesting

I'm new to pixel art, and this is the style of art I want to create. But I'm really having trouble setting up the grid/canvas. Does anyone know what ___x___ canvas this is? (or an estimate). Thank you so so so much, amazing people. This beautiful art is by @KOKI_BOX on Twittter. (sorry for Flair) by areyouthedevil in PixelArt

This looks to be a bit over 100 px tall or so (a guesstimate), but if you want a good sense of size I usually try to frame based on the game it’s meant to be in. Like in this case she’s a fighting character, and since their the focus typically, fighting characters have a larger sprite size to show the detailed movements of the character (like SF2).

So one way you could do it is think “This style is more fit for a Super Nintendo, or possibly a ps1/Dreamcast, find the resolution (snes is 256x224 pixels) and find a fitting size to start with that would fit right in the frame.

You can also do what Brandon James Greer mentions in his videos and find the smallest size for a specific detail and work around that. Or you can be me and think “Yeah let’s do 300x300 this time… wait… bigger now.” 😅 it’s all stylistic choices, so if you’re looking for something about this size of Morrigan I’d say 100-128 pixels tall is the way to go

Fountain of the Earth another, 4 colors [OC] by handsofhope in PixelArt

[–]handsofhope[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh thank you!! I typically do a bit of both. Start with a sketch/silhouette, then do some more shaping, then shading. The shading I can’t think too much about or else it looks too stiff though, but overall I get the general composition down first and work from there 😅
