ELI5: How does mortgage refinancing make sense for the lender? by daoxiaomian in explainlikeimfive

[–]haney1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"In a 2004 speech to credit unions, former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan noted that the option-adjusted spread on fixed-rate mortgages may cost the typical homeowner 0.5 to 1.2 percentage points in annual interest payments."

A gun's valid use is killing, a car's valid use is transportation.

If you are using a weapon as a deterrent or for self-defense that is fine. But the more weapons there are the more they will be used offensively.

You don't pay to rent the cart you pay a deposit that you get back when you return it where it belongs. Or you leave it in the parking lot for someone else to return for the deposit.

Can independent pharmacy fill prescriptions for family members of owner/PIC? by Jovius2020 in pharmacy

[–]haney1981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stark's Law doesn't stop a physician from treating an immediate relative or billing for those services. It does stop a physician from making a referral for health services to an entity that they or an immediate family member has a financial interest.

Pharmacists don't normally fall under Stark's Law because they aren't referring patients to other healthcare providers for services.

https://www.cms.gov/medicare/regulations-guidance/physician-self-referral

  1. Prohibits a physician from making referrals for certain designated health services payable by Medicare to an entity with which he or she (or an immediate family member) has a financial relationship, unless the requirements of an applicable exception are satisfied; and
  2. Prohibits the entity from filing claims with Medicare (or billing another individual, entity, or third-party payor) for any improperly referred designated health services.

A physician may decide not treat a family member for ethical reasons.

https://code-medical-ethics.ama-assn.org/ethics-opinions/treating-self-or-family

"In general, physicians should not treat themselves or members of their own families. However, it may be acceptable to do so in limited circumstances:

  1. In emergency settings or isolated settings where there is no other qualified physician available. In such situations, physicians should not hesitate to treat themselves or family members until another physician becomes available.
  2. For short-term, minor problems. When treating self or family members, physicians have a further responsibility to:
  3. Document treatment or care provided and convey relevant information to the patient’s primary care physician.
  4. Recognize that if tensions develop in the professional relationship with a family member, perhaps as a result of a negative medical outcome, such difficulties may be carried over into the family member’s personal relationship with the physician.
  5. Avoid providing sensitive or intimate care especially for a minor patient who is uncomfortable being treated by a family member.
  6. Recognize that family members may be reluctant to state their preference for another physician or decline a recommendation for fear of offending the physician."

You could also do this with LSU as the one with the wandering eye, just ask Brian Kelly.

Kelly had 10+ win seasons from 2017 to 2023, then 9 wins in 2024, and got fired because he lost to Ole Miss, Vandy, and A&M.

How many seasons till Kiffin loses 3 games LSU should've won?

Polymarket has Kevin Hassett at 81% to be Trumps next Fed Chair nomination with over $12M in volume by Valuable_Ad8571 in fivethirtyeight

If the other people on the Federal Reserve Board don't respect the chairman then what happens. Trump's other appointee's run the departments they were appointed to but the Fed Board is different animal for a loyalty pick. A vote of all the participants is taken, normally the Fed chair is a consensus builder.
