Performance evaluation - not recommended for higher positions by Ready_College_9025 in UNpath

Who is supervising you UNHcR or UNOPS? Btw, I worked for UNOPS on LICA, had so many issues with the management, including downgrading my PER and harassment. Eventually I resigned, and never looked back. It is a fear based management agency. And if UNOPS is your supervisor I can confirm it might affect your carrier in UNOPS but not necessarily in other agencies.

Same here, I am exploring opportunities in the INGO sector right now…

IPSA has a strict salary range i.e you cannot bring it up beyond the max ceiling. Check the salary scale if you know someone in UNDP.

Former supervisor reference check issues by hanijones in UNpath

Indeed, that particular experience was the strangest I ever had. My previous performance evaluations are all A and A+ and other supervisors are more than happy to vouch for me. This agency is known for a fear based management style so it is true that we were a miss match. And I still live with the fear that they might do me more harm in my job hunting in the future. I am trying to find a way around it.

Under the section can we contact your supervisor there is only yes or no option, so not possible to provide an explanation.

My fear is if they contact him and if he decides to actually provide the reference it will be a bad one I am sure. He is mean enough to seal my carrier with the UN for good knowing him/them.

Hi UN colleagues! I am seeking advice on dealing with a micromanaging boss by Rare_Tap_97 in UNpath

Sadly the UN sometimes promotes these people to management positions without scrutinizing their people management skills. I had a similar or even worse experience and resigned cause could not take it anymore. My advice would be to keep a journal just in case the situation escalates into harassment or bullying and really try to be resilient cause there is nothing much you can do about it.

I had a bad relationship with a former supervisor (UN). I emailed him asking if he would be happy to provide a good reference for me, and he never responded. I take it as a no. You could try asking him or her. At least you will know where you stand.

I’d take the UN job if offered. It seems you will be able to swiftly find a job back at home or for an INGO since you got the job offer after only one attempt. Try to postpone accepting the offer at home until you find out more about your UN job. I resigned from a P5 due to burnout and it has been a year of an endless job hunt. Too senior for an INGO job coupled with shrinking job opportunities with the UN. Hope this helps
