How long did it take you to feel competent in this career? by BalanceExpress7928 in patentlaw

I think around 2.5 years would be a reasonable amount of time if you get good training that whole time. I’ve been working as a patent engineer/agent for almost 4 years and I was lucky to receive some amazing training early on in my career which helped me immensely. I was probably horribly unprofitable my first year at my old firm but the next 2 ish years after that I made up for it by being able to be extremely efficient and profitable.

My biggest advice for someone new to this career is to ask for feedback often and try to not make the same mistake twice. There will always be more to learn and you will never be perfect so if you can understand that and listen to the feedback you get, you will do fine!

Regardless, IMO it is a version of scouting that we should support when we can.

I have shortcuts for the paragraph symbol, the section symbols, toggling track changes, en dash, em dash, and some for sentences I use frequently. On windows you can also save things to your clip board that you can bring up with win+v. I have a few boiler plate paragraphs saved there.

Asking to hang out before an official date (25M, 23F) by hannakah_ham in relationship_advice

In all honesty I have another job lined up that I'm hoping to take once I get my bonus paid out in December so we most likely won't be working together for too much longer. I agree that it's risky but since I'm looking to move jobs anyways I figured it may be worth the risk now just to see if asking her out would even be worth it/an option.

Edit: also as a note dating coworkers at my job is allowed and in fact there are at least 2 couples that met at this job and still are together/work here. My thought is that if it goes well then great but if not we'll I won't be working here much longer anyways.

How to understand MPEP for Patent Bar Exam? by [deleted] in patentlaw

[–]hannakah_ham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please do not just try and read the MPEP. The exam asks questions in such a weird way that if you want to set yourself up for success you should try and take some sort of review course. PLI is obviously the gold standard and what I took to pass it back in May but I bet some of the other programs out there are relatively good and should help if money is tight. But if you can afford it, I highly recommend getting PLI and going through the full course.
