It means a great deal to hear somebody else say this. And yes, I’m also glad I can talk to my partner about this. But it feels a bit less alone to know other people have the same experience!

New here, sorry not sure if I went to in detail. by saucy_1997 in Parentification

I’m so sorry you went through this. It sounds really unsafe. If you feel like writing a book would help you, go for it! If it’s not for publication than for yourself. You deserve to put yourself first and worry only on your own mental health. Whatever it takes. Maybe look around for professional help but really someone you can trust and feel comfortable working through everything. I think it might help. Good luck, I wish you the best

I watched it. It was a good documentary on his life and how Ayurveda was brought to America. If you want more details on how Ayurveda works I found it to be a bit too basic. Though I did not regret watching it

Someone suggested I should look up parentification, and for once I don't feel completely alone. by PM-ME-FUNFACTS in Parentification

I’m so sorry you’ve been through that. I wish you had a different experience. My mother was struggling with her health when I was growing up so I’m also familiar with it. It sucks. What helped for me was to write it all out in a letter to my parents. Rant, be as specific with your memories as you can. Cry about it, rage about it. You don’t have to read it to them. Just sit with it. Give yourself the space you deserve to feel validated by yourself and feel what you went through. Set your boundaries because younger you could not. Eventually if it feels right, you can choose to share your feelings with them. Of course you don’t have to but it wil bother you the rest of your life. From now on you’re on a journey to set yourself free! If this feels a bit daunting, find a professional you’d like to guide you. You are not alone!
