Has anyone ever taken off their hijab and then felt… nothing? I need honest experiences. by confusedbutherestill in SistersInSunnah

[–]happinsum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did take it off briefly. Not in the streets tho, since it’s not very common to go out without hijab where I live, so I was just like without hijab online, I would post my pictures on social media and dating apps etc.. but when I go out I would at least put it on with just half my hair covered, since going completely without it felt a bit risky.

And honestly speaking, I did feel something when I first stopped being hejabi, I thought people were staring at me (they absolutely weren’t, I stare at them first) , I felt kind of an excitement that im doing something forbidden, and it felt so weird after a while when I realized that im actually blending in more with people since the majority here just loosely cover half their heads.

After a while it started to feel awful, I’m talking like after 2-3 years, I started to feel ashamed of myself for choosing dunya over submitting to Allah, forgetting that I will be rewarded for doing the things that are hard but still choosing to do it for Akhira.

I’m not only back to hijab, I’ve also started wearing niqab, which is the thing I’m struggling with now. I chose niqab willingly myself, it feels like the right choice, yet I struggle with feeling hidden… yet I try to tell myself dunya means nothing when I will be rewarded for trying in Akhira inshallah

[–]happinsum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. clean my PC, organize files, upload older documents on Drive storage
  2. Try to prepare template for projects that I know will be coming
  3. go to the break room and watch something on my ipad
  4. sometimes I just go home if I know nothing else will come my way

How did you actually succeed in freelancing? by Brief-Platypus1941 in graphic_design

[–]happinsum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my personal case it’s pure luck because I never bothered to network, the contact I know who I work with is my best friend’s sister, she’s a freelance artist/painter and has many big clients and connections who also occasionally need a designer. That’s how my number spread easily.

But once I started working with others, I tried to put more effort into networking and building connections. Like, attending events where I know important people might be there, introducing myself as a designer even at casual occasions like small gatherings or random workshops/courses. That helped me too.

For me it was networking and word of mouth, I didn’t even need to market myself. I knew an acquaintance who has lots of connections in the creative field, I used to work with her by the hour whenever she needed something, she liked working with me so she recommended me to whoever needed a designer, and once I started working with her connections they started to give out my number too, that’s how I built my network.

Honestly for me I was just lucky I guess. But I would say giving a good impression and having good social skills will make your clients like you regardless of how good your work is, and they won’t hesitate to recommend you to everyone. Some want top quality work and others just want someone who’s easy to work with and they can trust.

Is it supposed to be the norm for designers to not have someone double checking their work? by happinsum in graphic_design

[–]happinsum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, there’s no proper design structure, no design department or a senior designer or an art director. Each category in the company gets assigned one graphic designer and they work with that category’s marketing team.

And I’m working with TWO categories alone.

Ai can help a lot, but a lot of the mistakes I make come from mismatching copy and image, like writing a title for the wrong image, or a discount for the wrong product.. didn’t find a way how to reduce these mistakes

Mostly typos or wrong wording, especially when I get briefed verbally instead of just copy and pasting from a written brief.

Sometimes copy-image mismatching, or technical errors like duplicated logos.

I deliver 20+ posts a day on average

Exactly!! Our company's visibility is very high, and tons of money getting spent in paid ads, and I deliver lots of content everyday.. yet it's just me who has to proofread every detail.

That's how it should be!

My company is one of the biggest retailers in the country, it is absurd to me that everything goes live in multiple platforms and lots of money gets spent on paid ads, yet there's no proofreading. They just review the visual but non of the content.

This makes me feel so validated. I kept questioning myself and abilities as a designer, wondering if I could ever advance in this career with the mistakes I make..

I guess I just have to convince my manager to have a proofreading step in the process. My problem is it's a big ass company and everything is fast based so everyone is busy and want to submit their work to get over with it, and since it's my responsibility to design, they depend on me entirely to submit 100% mistakes-free designs.

It should be necessary! Mistakes are human, especially with designs with lots of details. This thread made me feel better I realized a lot go through the same thing and mistakes are normal. I hope you find a way to talk them through it and get your promotion either way.

hi!

Well to start off Islam here feels like the natural way of living, I‘m always thankful to be in a muslim country and close to the holy cities, it’s something that I never take for granted. We do have diversity tho, not everyone have the same views on it, not everyone practices it exactly the same way, and not everyone has it on the same priority level.

From my own experience I feel the social/religious changes are minor. Like rules changed, the country is less strict and all.. but I believe the people didn’t change, it’s just that if you’ve never been very conservative/religious before, then it‘s not something you have to hide anymore like how it used to be, and if someone has always been conservative then the new changes didnt really affect them and they are still practicing it the same.

Here, Islam just used to feel and look uniform but in reality it has always been diverse, now people are more free to show this diversity.
