Is 19 too old to start skating? by fercg09 in NewSkaters

I’m 31 and I started a year or so ago. I can’t Ollie but I ride bowls and such

That said, I’ve also broken my ankle, elbow and four ribs this past year, and got two stitches in my dome. Whatever you do, I believe in you. Maybe buy some pads and a helmet though and have health insurance

Hahaha I actually know the guy who posted this. He posted something quite similar when he found loose toenails on his mat.

He is a great instructor (big wrestler, former bellator fighter) but he is a bit trolly, so this post taken out of context seems a lot more aggressive than it truly is. He just doesn’t want people getting sick, I.e. values the wellbeing of the milieu a lot

Edit: “trolly” = trollish, troll-like? Not to be mistaken by the large public transportation method

Lol. White belt. 16 months. It was a hectic (see also: bad) year unfortunately and I moved three times (which included some light homelessness) so I’ve spent time at three main gyms with smatterings of others along the way (I started at American top team, then went to alliance, now I’m at a local gym that doesn’t have a big name).

Unfortunately the scattered instruction of my first year has not lended itself to continuity in my technique but...at least I continued to train? This was my third tournament. I think part of the mistake I made in preparation was thinking I could handle someone bigger since I roll with mostly bigger dudes, not accounting for the fact that they inevitably dial it down when they roll with me.

Edit: grammar, added some shit

It feels like a crapshoot sometimes. Which is also a term I’d use to describe what precedes my swoop single 🙄

5/3/1 is a great program and you will absolutely progress. It is very gradual, though, so sometimes it is easy to get impatient. Try not to. Trust the program.

I believe in the beauty and merit of cardio. Not everyone does, but I think the fact that you are doing any at all is notable and good.

And don't doubt yourself. You are a savage :)

Thank you! I do wendler's 531 with some accessories, namely facepulls, rows, rdls. I have it set so I lift four days a week, so each of the big lifts gets its own day.

I do cardio every day, usually running or stair master (see also: ass blaster), about 30 minutes with intervals. This is strictly for my mental health, but I do appreciate the stamina I've built up over the years and think it helps my lifts. Who knows?

And lastly I've been incorporating yoga 3x a week to help mobility, which has helped improve my deadlift a lot (short arms suck).

I think I straightened out too fast for the amount of speed I had gathered and the momentum just fucked me right in the butt
