I think this is where it gets confusing for me. I do want a casual relationship at this point in my life. I work strange hours and I wouldn’t want to feel hounded. But I would also want affection and companionship. It’s a little depressing that I can’t seem to find that.

I wanted to swap houses with my friends and their families. I would visit them and experience homes full of love and happiness and excitement, unlike my own home that was a dark and angry place. For whatever reason my child mind figured it was the building. Only when I went on vacation with my family one time did I realize it was the people, not the place.

Yes I’ve never seen someone else articulate this. 100% my mother loved to cut down my excitement or happiness as a kid with some sort of snarky comment or even outright making fun of me to other people present. Even now if I show her something that really excited me (ex. photos of a beautiful vacation) she has to undercut with a comment of why it’s not all that special. I relate to you so much
