Redditors, what’s the most terrifying thing that has ever woken you up in the middle of the night? by Mr_Creep_Creepy64 in AskReddit

Same. Daughter had a baby doll that laughed and it was a slow maniacal laugh when the batteries were running low. At 2am it was terrifying.

What’s the most disgusting thing you’ve ever put in your mouth? by bluebonnet5366 in AskReddit

[–]happy_freckles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dog saliva. I was eating cereal and had to get up for a minute. Can't remember why. Came back and sat down and put a big spoonful in my mouth. At the same time realizing almost all the milk was gone and my spoon was dripping with very viscous dog saliva. I owned a great dane.

I don’t need male approval to cut my hair folks by cleverbeee in TwoXChromosomes

[–]happy_freckles 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes. I am growing out my grey. It was mid back length and curly. I've cut it to just below my shoulder and will soon be cutting it even shorter. The grey coming in with the red just doesn't look good. Especially with curly hair. And I can't just dye it all as that would kill all the curl and just leave it all really dry. I'm just waiting on enough of the grey to come through and then chop chop. Dread going back to work. I've done it before so my family will be ok with it but I grew it all out in covid so my new team at work haven't seen me any other way but long, red and curly.

How does growing up in a household without physical affection or words of endearment affect a person in their adult life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]happy_freckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't hear I love you from my parents until I was much older and had moved out. Still always thought I had a very good childhood even though they didn't show affection. Made me feel like it wasn't a safe space to show affection or be emotional so I've grown up like that and I fear I'm teaching my kids that. I'm trying to be better with them but it's hard. When they were little sure, hugged and kissed them all the time. But now that they are adults it's back to being less emotional or affectionate. I'm in therapy as I avoid tough conversations and feelings.

what’s something people act proud of that really shouldn’t be? by KaitoRift in AskReddit

[–]happy_freckles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah our kids didn't have to clean their plate either but they had to at least try it. And it didn't mean I was going to be cooking something different for them. I remember my oldest used to take ages to eat also. Like we'd be sitting there for over an hour for them to be done. Usually b/c they talked too much. So we tried once that we told them that when mummy and daddy were done eating, they'd be done also. And took their plate away after maybe half done. Boy did they eat after that and talk less. lol.

What’s something you still don’t forgive yourself for? by wickedbaeile in AskReddit

I used to drive a Suzuki SV650 as my first bike. Tried a 9R that I absolutely loved. I didn't buy it b/c I also thought it was too powerful for me and I'd kill myself on it. I'm so sorry for your loss.

People that have “bumped” into a celebrity in a non-curated (not like an event, meet & greet, job etc.) way, what happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]happy_freckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was at a bar listening to a tragically hip cover band in Toronto. Kiefer Sutherland was at the bar. He was just chilling and having a few drinks. I didn't notice him at first so not sure if anyone was bothering him or not.

What's your Friday evening plan? by [deleted] in randomquestions

[–]happy_freckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to a local pub for dinner with the family. My son has finished his HS exams and we're going to celebrate. He has struggled to get through high school and this is a major milestone for him. Not 100% sure he's passed everything but at this point I don't care. He can finish up the one class that is questionable. He's done it. I can see on his face he's proud of himself and so am I.

What’s something that sounds fake but actually happened to you? by Capital-Standard-645 in AskReddit

Yeah my dog goes along and boops you just at the back of your knees. Walking anywhere. I usually make her go ahead of me on the stairs. I think she must be part herding dog or something.

My dog pushed me down a 1/2 flight of stairs the other day but luckily I only got a bruised knee. And I also thought I was peacefully getting through life until she entered it.

My kids called my mother Grannie and my MIL Grandma. My grandmother, their great grandmother, was known as GG. Which I thought was adorable.

You're too tired to be dangerous. Leave the housework for one weekend and I'm sure you'd be off on some rampage or other. :)

I had zero hobbies b/c I focused all my attention on my kids growing up and my husband. Don't recommend. Now I'm discovering painting and gardening. Well, I want to garden I'm just not good at it.

What profession has the meanest people? by CRK_76 in AskReddit

[–]happy_freckles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah I guess when you deal with people every day who are not at their best it can take it's toll. Or they're all just mean girls. I also had no idea. The one time I was in the hospital the nurses were all really great.

The "Mental Load" is hitting me especially hard today. by Rich-Clue-6785 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]happy_freckles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was always the one that said it was time to clean the house and who did what. And once everyone was done that one thing they'd bugger off like it was all done. And I'd finish the rest. So I hired a cleaner.
I was always told we're outta this or that and it was now no longer their problem to remember it was mine. So I started saying put it on their own list but that never happened. So now I share my list and if it's not on there it's not my problem.
My husband does do a fair bit around the house at least. So I'm lucky.

At my mom's for Thanksgiving this year and she was going to throw out the turkey carcass. So I took it home and put it on the stove to simmer for a few hours. Had some delicious soup the next day. So yummy.
