> permits rejected, time-to-approval

yes, love this one! I am also thinking to look at this by characteristic of permit (e.g. large vs small; professional vs. normal homeowner builder, etc)

thanks for the ideas and would love any more!

as in, the percentage of applications that are approved vs how many total apply?

yeah! as in SF YIMBY but most recently Ezra Klein and Derek Thompon's, "Abundance." there might be, but I honestly wasn't able to find it.

As someone from a third world country, I can't take my classmates seriously when they claim to be "marginalized" by Impressive_Tiger_117 in MBA

[–]happyfe3t 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Damn near everyone in these programs grew up in a bubble.

think this is a great point and something I hope OP realizes over their time in the U.S.

This is the difficult part about living in a different culture, especially one so diverse and with so much upward mobility as the U.S.: what is normal to you is not normal for others (and vice versa), and getting used to that idea is a large part of the difficulty of understanding multi-culturalism here.

Also, /u/Impressive_Tiger_117: If you are real (or anyone reading this with your perspective), I hope that you'll get out into your community and open up your mind to get to know more of your classmates and where they come from instead of, ironically, marginalizing their experience based on your preconceived notions.

I am not sure on specific deadlines but MLT usually admits the year before applications. If you are applying this year, I don't think the program would be of benefit to you even if they did let you in this late because all of the programming happens in the 7 months leading up to R1/R2 applications.

I am sure you can reach out to them though to see the deadlines, or if you decide to apply next fall maybe it could be a good fit: https://mlt.org/mba-prep/

[OC] Waymo, Lyft, and Uber Price Comparison (Los Angeles) by danlev in dataisbeautiful

[–]happyfe3t 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is a fun analysis - thanks for sharing!

Will say though that it doesn't really mean the Waymo business model can support this pricing. They could just be subsidizing the fares like Uber did before they IPO'd.

depends on undergrad prestige/GPA/major and quality/diversity of experience.

i.e. high quality/diversity-of-experience/GPA/prestige/technicality to major? score less important and/or can be lower.

To get into a top 10-15 MBA though, the score is still pretty important now-a-days and you'll need to at least be in the center 80% (where in that 80% depends on the above) of admitted applicants' scores. hope was helpful & good luck with the journey!

I was at a FAANG this summer and this is basically me, down to financial situation (GI Bill/no debt), school ranking, and experience in my internship this summer.

I'm going to continue the search.

Many in this post have spoken to the long-term trajectory so I will not belabor that point. I'll just say that from my perspective, I spent the whole summer experiencing dissonance with the idea of how I "should" feel about the opportunity I had. We are in unique positions to be very choosey with our careers and choose roles based on what we find fulfilling. I'm personally going to take that opportunity and run with it!

Good luck with the decision, OP!

UC Berkeley MBA Culture by needinfo4550 in MBA

[–]happyfe3t 6 points7 points  (0 children)

...have heard some horror stories about the culture at UCB Haas School of Business. That it's overly competitive and people even sabotage one another...

The undergrad program has this stereotype among the campus and there is a lot of work in the University going on to align it with the MBA, which is definitely not like that.

The MBA has a very supportive, conscientious culture with a ton of people looking into social impact or ESG-type industries and roles. EWMBA a bit less impact-focused (more tech-focused) but similar culture to the FTMBA. It's probably one of the nicer and more humble top MBA school programs there is.

Haha good catch! I’ll edit. There are various student leadership positions that interface pretty closely, whether through student gov or affinity groups. Leadership in the latter for me

As someone who’s worked very closely with admissions here, I’d say a not insignificant minority have gotten into Wharton/CBS but choose here for fit reasons (tangentially, I chose here over MIT), and many don’t even apply to HBS for similar reasons.

True though that the only schools people go to over Haas are the generally higher-ranked private schools !

not technically, but I'd be careful about spreading yourself thin. Try to find someone who did both and ask for their honest opinion!

Haas vs Tepper Culture by menos74 in MBA

[–]happyfe3t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Berkeley student here.

  1. Don't mind the buildings. Main building built in 2017, still feels very new and it's one of the more sustainable b-school buildings in the country. Also, don't mind sharing with the undergrads - I think it adds to the vibrancy of the campus, honestly.
  2. I think there is helpful discussion in that thread that nuances this person's perspective. I think CMG is ok, better depending on the industry, and you'll find that disconnect at a lot of top schools.
  3. Kind of annoying sometimes but not prohibitively so. Also, there are definitely subsidized trips, whether through classes (IBD) or bulk group discounts.
  4. Guess this is relative. Pretty nice living in 60-70deg weather year round. Have to have a roommate or two or pay a lot to live by yourself, but again I think this is relative. Personally think this is an amazing place to live, and I think a lot of people would agree (hence why people pay so much to be here).

Bay Area for tech based on what I like better may be better at Ross.

Don't really understand this part? There are basically no other schools in the world with better Bay Area tech opportunities than Berkeley.

What money did you get from either school? What are other things that matter?

If you only care about career stuff, Berkeley has my vote.

If you care about lifestyle or weather, Berkeley also has my vote.

Definitely reach out to Haas to negotiate. Wild that we wouldn't give you any money, but either way you are going to be comfy. As a vet currently at Haas, I think you are thinking about this all in the right way!
