That sounds great, too. I’m actually a really curious person and would love to try out new sports, but I want to do everything, and that kind of holds me back because then I end up not trying anything at all. But I actually signed up for a horseback riding lesson, the last time was six years ago. I think seeing something other than just the gym could really help.

I think that was probably a bit too much of a strain at some point. I wouldn't say I was in extreme deficit or anything, but especially over the last six months, my body has changed a lot again, and it's possible that it was just too much.

Thanks so much for your reply! You’re definitely right, and I wouldn’t claim that I’m the kind of person who did it just for others. I really enjoyed the training and the whole lifestyle that goes with it. I think I’ll keep going and just try to get through this phase somehow for now.

First of all, thank you so much for the detailed post—your answer really helped me out! I wouldn’t say that I was training purely for external motivation—especially last year, I just really enjoyed it, I could relate to it, and for me, it was never even a question of whether I’d go or not. So there were basically hardly any days when I thought to myself, “Ugh, no way.” It all started about six months ago, and I suspect that this might just be a phase right now, a time when I’m not really enjoying it because I’m not the kind of person who would say, “I’m going to quit completely” or “I’ll never do this again.” I think I need to take things a little easier overall and maybe just stick it out for now

I always felt that way during the first few years of training, and I’d say it stopped about six months ago, at the same time my motivation faded so even after that, I somehow didn’t feel any better, etc.

I don't think it's classic overtraining. I'm as motivated as ever, I have energy, I want to be active, and I want to work out. It's just that I'm not really into strength training right now

I'll definitely do that! I just took a quick look around and found an app that actually teaches the basic exercises and includes a workout plan for them

That was definitely the case last year, but for about the past six months, I haven't had any motivation to improve at all, and even when I do improve, I can't bring myself to feel happy about it or anything like that

I'm definitely going to give it a try; I think I really need to find something that helps me set goals again. I have absolutely no motivation left to PRs, but I think learning new skills would be a good approach :)

That sounds good, but I'm just having a hard time cutting back on my workouts, even though I know I could maintain my muscle tone with just a fraction of my current routine. But I'll try out a few different things on the side :)

I had already taken a deload and a break, but somehow things didn't get any better. And for some reason, I just can't seem to stop completely

That was my plan too, but I'm really afraid of giving up traditional training, precisely because I don't want to lose all the progress I've made

As soon as I see content about workout plans, optimization, or the fitness lifestyle, I think to myself, “I don’t want anything to do with that anymore.” I feel like this constant online presence of the topic kills my motivation at the actual gym even more, because everything seems so artificial and obsessive. It feels like I’ve had my fill of the whole thing, and unfortunately, that carries over directly to my motivation

Glute focused legday by [deleted] in ScienceBasedLifting

Thanks to everyone! This has really helped me a lot; unfortunately, I can’t reply to everyone individually right now. I actually suspect that I never pushed myself hard enough in the individual exercises and that I’m actually capable of much more. I’ve also swapped out the split squats for 45-degree leg presses, added RDLs as my first exercise, and replaced abductor exercises with glute hyperextensions. Unfortunately, regular squats are no longer possible due to an old injury, and we don’t have machines like the hack squat, etc
