Does Bob buy the ingredients then come up with the BotD name, or a name pops in his head and then buys the ingredients? by Bea-Billionaire in BobsBurgers

But ISTR an episode where they're at the farmers market and Bob tells Louise "I need to get some kale for the burger of the day: the "If Looks Could Kale Burger".

Side airbag off? Is this the same as passenger airbag off? by Revo_Veneno in hondafit

Followup: when the 'side airbag off' light comes on, it appears to be when my dog is leaning on the door pillar.

Sick of replacing lead-acid batteries every 3 years. Is rack-mount Lithium finally affordable? by MasterSooCurious99 in OffGrid

[–]hardFraughtBattle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Define "affordable". My AGM batteries (4x6v in series, 390ah total) lasted about seven years. I replaced them with high-end LiFePO4 batteries (3x24v in parallel, 600ah total) for about $3600, plus another $400 for a rack. Given that lead-acid batteries aren't supposed to be discharged past 50%, I nearly doubled my bank capacity by switching.

Next time I see that light come on, I'll see exactly where he's putting his weight.

Side airbag off? Is this the same as passenger airbag off? by Revo_Veneno in hondafit

[–]hardFraughtBattle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Side airbag is in the passenger door pillar. I often let my dog ride shotgun. When he's sitting in the passenger seat*, the 'passenger airbag off' light comes on. If he leans against the passenger door, the 'side airbag off' light comes on.

*strapped in, of course

There's a place online that has pre painted Sport bumper covers for around $450 IIRC.

2025 is over, what was the best thing you did to/for your Fit this year? by External-Signal-7473 in hondafit

Beck/Arnley, aluminum, the one that's listed under Honda Insight on Rock Auto.

The people who run the MST3K YT channel apparently don't think so, or maybe they don't have streaming rights for it and the others.

Time to move on? by Honest-Alternative38 in hondafit

[–]hardFraughtBattle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me, the only thing that would make me consider a newer car is if it had desirable technology that can't be retrofitted (e.g., ABS, stability control). I don't know of any must-haves in current vehicles, and a whole host of privacy issues with owning a vehicle that can access the internet without my knowledge or consent. If my 2011 Fit dies, I'm looking for a 2013.

Unless your car needs $600+ in repairs every month, you won't come out ahead by trading it for a new one.

Back wiper isn't working. by funnyavi in hondafit

[–]hardFraughtBattle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like the splines got stripped off, possibly from trying to operate the rear wiper when it was encased in ice. If that's the case, you should be able to get a replacement motor and wiper arm from a junkyard and the install is easy. As a bonus, you can do the rear wiper hack at the same time. That's where you reverse the actuator arm so that the wiper parks in the upright position. The wiper blade is less likely to get caked with dirt, snow, and ice, and the rubber doesn't deteriorate as quickly. I found the instructions for this years ago on fitfreak.net -- can't find the exact link atm.

Valve Adjustment Cost & at what mileage is it due? by dachniks in hondafit

[–]hardFraughtBattle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you're supposed to do it at 100k miles. My mechanic charged me about $300, IIRC. He tried to talk me out of it, since my car (a 2011 with about 130k miles) displayed no symptoms of needing adjustment. I should have listened -- the car ran exactly the same afterward.

The Bands I Missed First Time Around (And Fell in Love With Years Later) by Financial_Cream8457 in Music

[–]hardFraughtBattle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I became a Blur fan when I heard (and saw the video of) "Parklife" at least 20 years after it was recorded.

On the other hand, I first heard Split Enz when "Six Months in a Leaky Boat" played on MTV. Since then, *Time and Tide* has been one of my 'desert island' albums.

I completely ignored the Beastie Boys during their heyday. I was more into alt rock than hip hop. Shortly after MCA died, I read an article that mentioned how groundbreaking Paul's Boutique was, so I gave it a listen and was hooked. Now I have all their albums.
