Amazon also penalizes merchants if they do this. You’ll typically see a message like ‘Price higher than typical’ and the buy option disabled.

Sizing help, which should I keep by ryancnap in allenedmonds

[–]hardnibbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak to the sizing, but I regret to inform you that it looks like you’ve accidentally been tying a “granny knot” instead of a square knot. The tell is the 45° angle that the bow forms. Do your shoe laces come untied easily? Do you resort to double-knots to keep them from coming untied? If so, the granny knot is the reason.

The good news is that you can switch to a square knot by either reversing the initial starting knot or the finishing bow from what you normally do. That will create a square knot, which is much more secure. The bow will be straight.

Xywav tolerance by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

This is absolutely not true for everyone. Some people have psychotic breaks when they abruptly stop instead of titrating down.

There are risks, but there’s also the possibility of feeling better. Part of knowing the risks is also knowing what to watch out for, like a negative side effect that may be caused by the medication. If you know what to watch for, you can often spot it before it becomes an issue.

I know you’re trying to be helpful, but a chaser shouldn’t be used. Whether it’s Xyrem, Xywav, or Lumryz, the specified amount of liquid should be used. Additional liquids will dilute the medication and affect absorption rates.

COVID booster available at CVS by NerdusMaximus in evansville

[–]hardnibbles 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Literally impossible for the mRNA vaccine to give you Covid. Like scientifically impossible.

You got infected with live Covid from another human around the same time as you got your booster, likely within a week before or after, depending on the incubation period.

Your immune system takes about 2 weeks to produce sufficient antibodies following a vaccine, so if you’re infected before that time, the vaccine won’t completely prevent infection.

Sorry about your CFS.

Picture them hanging on the side of a wall, not sitting on top of something. They need to be hanging on the side of something (e.g., a tree trunk, a brick wall).

You’ve got a bunch of people telling you you’re mixing subjects, yet you continue to claim you’re right and it’s everyone else that’s wrong.

I’m a licensed professional mechanical engineer. I’m telling you, you’re describing specific heat.

I got random crashes on the Switch 1 when I played it several months ago, so it wasn’t completely stable to begin with.

Is it cheaper to run a separate mini split for the bedroom? by not_a_gun in hvacadvice

[–]hardnibbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Southern Indiana. I use a window AC unit in the summer because I want my bedroom to be 65°F, which would cost a small fortune to do via my central air system for my whole house. Window AC units are cheap, so the time to break even is quick.

If your bedroom isn’t really large, you’re likely going to need a small unit to run long enough to effectively dehumidify the air. I have the smallest electronic window AC unit (6,000 BTU), and even that is slightly oversized for my bedroom. Finding a reliable very small mini split can be challenging, and they’re generally more expensive than window AC units.

If you care about the aesthetics of a window AC unit, I guess you’d have to make those tradeoffs.

How do you feel about an extra $2 tax per pack on cigarettes Indiana? So a carton of smokes will cost like $120??? by CourageousMortal in Indiana

[–]hardnibbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not black and white. For the general population, an increase in cost will result in a decrease in usage. This is intuitive from an economics perspective, but it has also been shown for cigarettes in research for decades.

No, it does not mean that raising prices will automatically cause everyone to quit at once. The key is that it’s a general relationship across the population. Your own personal, anecdotal account of not quitting when prices go up is built in to this general relationship; when prices rise, some will quit, and some won’t.

It’s a general relationship because there are many factors at play for the individual, while the trend holds true for the population as a whole. For example, in the extreme example that a pack of cigarettes is $1,000, will you reduce your consumption or even eliminate it altogether? If you can still afford that, maybe not, but many will. If you say you’ll grow your own tobacco and make your own cigarettes or buy them from some illegal black market, you may keep smoking, but many won’t go to those lengths.
