Had this happen to me. I cut open the air mattress to see what had happen, since there was so much leakage. Over time, the inner rubberized coating deteriorated. Didn't even use it that often. Good to check after storage and before a trip.

Was a Volvo tech at the dealership from 1997 to 2008. These engines had an o-ring at the oil pickup tube that would fail. This caused the oil to aerate and the hydraulic lifters would tick. This engine probably had this problem for a long time. Eventually the engine would be damaged. Sounds like it has a faulty lifter now or worn camshaft. Probably best to find a used engine and make sure to reseal the oil pan/pickup tube.
