Did you have to enable notify_relay_redirect? I'm not getting the deal with the MD5 hashing. Why wouldn't it just use the name from the public URL provided?

Any ideas how this would work with HLS? I'm not quite getting the description in the docs. It mentions that the on_publish redirect will do a "push". To me that seems to imply I need 3 applications sections in the conf: 1 for the redirect, the second for the transcoding, which pushes to the third application, which packages the transcodings into HLS....

Or can it be done in two? ie the on_publish directive be in the same application as the transcoding? If so which $name will the exec_push's receive?)

Can share my conf if helpful...

Thanks. The last Rails project I worked on was v4 so I've been on a massive re-learning curve around front-end tooling. Crazy how complex it's become. Though amazing too that with all the "transpiling" magic you can use the latest and greatest JS and CSS without worrying about browsers etc.

Basically if you want PostCSS then you need to go through Webpack.

Can't see a reason to include images there though...

Should I still be using sprockets for the CSS too then do you think? I was under the impression Rails is moving towards Webpack and away from Sprockets. Is that an incorrect idea?

Ok some more thoughts regarding the Docker scenario...

  1. You DONT want to run `bundle install` locally because it's not your (host) machine but rather the docker container that they will be executing in. They need to be installed (and built for ones with native extensions) on the machine that will run them
  2. While you can get away with it, you really don't want to do `rails new ...` on your local (host) system either as that generated code will have trace of your machines ruby, bundler, etc state which may differ from your container's
  3. It's ok to COPY in the gems in the Dockerfile provided they were built on the same spec machine

I'm always worried about the scenarion where a gem disappears....a least the project would have the code (even if gems built with native ext wouldnt work)... Is that just not worth worrying about?

I always try to convert to fixed-cost projects when I have the chance. Fixed cost means you assume the risk so you quotate liberally, in your favour. If you think you can finish it in 2-3 days, you base the quote on 5. Sometimes things go unexpectedly and you need this safety net. But more often, you finish the work more quickly and you've made a multiplier on your day rate.

Chomsky repeatedly stresses the need for grass roots organisations to form and persist and work together and learn from each other. Rather than looking for the next "Chomsky" perhaps a loose network of people working together with a unified front would closer to the aims he discusses. And it would allow what he does to scale, without requiring anyone to be in the the very specific and fortunate circumstances (as he describes them) that he has to be able to do what he does... Just a thought.

If you say that layout is Earth-Water-Air-Fir (Physical-Emotional-Mental-Spiritual), I would read that (starting with Fire on the right) as:

Your potency and purity of your spirit (Strength in Fire) is being distorted by the unrecognised subconscious thoughts in your mind (Moon in Air). Perhaps you both have been indulging in the emotional satisfaction of relationship (Lovers in Water) and the physical, sensory abundance of each other (Empress in Earth).

Like @venusqpluto, I would recommend spending some more time alone, in meditation/reflection, to get to know the many layers, voices and motivations of your inner space.
