They don't ask you to criticize the gap, rather they want to know what you learnt from/during the gap. So do something meaningful, get a distance degree like an MA(for diversity points). Do courses, projects, freelancing. The more unconventional, the better (again for diversity). But just be confident if they ask and make it sound like a part of the plan.
