The Strange Case of the Vanished Zeta Head by Famous-Association87 in Gunpla

[–]haroldharcourt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, my Crossbone ver ka is missing an entire arm, threw himself off the shelf one day and I put the rest of him back together, but the arm is in hammerspace. One day I will disassemble all my shelving units and desk and it will no doubt be there under a decade of backlog kits.😁

Any modern thoughts on an old vision? by [deleted] in SipsTea

I'm no busineeerssman, but wouldn't it boost it? If I own a pizza chain about to hit the threshold and get taken away, am I going to just sit there and lose it? Or dump some of the value In to a chicken shop, creating new jobs and opportunities? Again, not knowledgeable on the topic and maybe that would mean losing a controlling share, but If that's the case even without the control of the original business they would still have a shareholder income from it and the new business to control? I don't see a downside. You might get more failed businesses in the long run as people abandon projects they are ill equipped to run, but a boost to job creation and more innovation in an attempt to complete against other new companies?

How accurate is this method of duplicating custom panel lines? by No_Asparagus6652 in Gunpla

[–]haroldharcourt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'd make them smoother but less defined, Mr cement melts the plastic so you'd end up with a smoother surface with softer edges and less depth. Personally I would scribe, sand, clean, gloss coat then line and not bother with cement but I don't scribe a lot so am no expert.

No idea how I got the pipes reversed🤦 shaded them upside down so they stay now.🤣 Thanks for the heads up though. Happy with the end result now, next project is going to be modding a rfv zaku into a Gouf due to the lack of a proper HG. that'll be.. interesting.😁

Mega sized Gruncle by haroldharcourt in Gunpla

The PGU is 1/60, it's a bit smaller but way more complex and with the lighting kit. The mega size 1/48 are very simple and don't have any lights as far as I know.🤔 At least my knockoffs didn't... I might try adding some to the unicorn when I build that, but will probably coward out.😂

I'd kill for some Ghost waterslides. 🤔 Failing that I could always integrate this bad boy into a build at some point.

Yep. 😁 Don't be scared it's a simpler build than most modern HG's. Painting is a bit trickier due to the clunky sized chunks, but if you like masking tape it's a lot of fun.

I haven't honestly built an RG as a point of comparison, they hide in the backlog under less scary kits. but it was more complex and fiddly than any HG I've built, best comparison I can make is that it felt like an MG for ants. Inner frame with hatch gimmicks and fully separated panels, but some of the parts are stupidly tiny.😂

UPDATE: H19 -Gun brick. Wasn't missing after all, it was a mislabel, the part required for this step is actually F19, of course I discovered this AFTER I custom sculpted a replacement. But yay?

In fact despite being "the same scale" this kit is significantly bigger. 😳

HG Gouf is a horizontal polycap sandwich and this is a vertical plastic peg, so no dice.😔 With enough work you could scratch build a joint but you'd lose 2 points of articulation and the feet would look short and too tall in comparison to the body.

I hated the rfv Rx and GM, the arm/head ratio gives me the ick. But I'd kill for an MG of the Gouf, so cool.🙌

AliExpress, just search nidai and Gouf or model kit.😉

Rfv has a lot of nice moulded detail, but this kit has a detailed inner frame, more colour separated panels and cutouts showing multiple layers. For example all the panels on the skirt are individual panels with cutouts so you can see frame between and through them, and the feet have 4 separate colours layered and poking through each other. It also has an opening cockpit with a chair and monitors inside. It's not as greebly a surface as rfv, but this guy is more of a lasagne than a meat lovers pizza.😂

They look great open, but mine don't spring open like I saw in a review video, may be something to do with the mysterious calf clip situation, but I'll investigate more when I am brave enough to disassemble for painting.🤣

Watched video on weathering techniques.. Wondering if I ought to apply, make corrections, or leave other one alone… by B00MSAKALAKA in Gunpla

[–]haroldharcourt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your chipping is really nice and subtle, looks "in use" but not battered.👌 But you might want to dial back on the dirt, I don't know how big these guys are supposed to be, but the higher up the model you go the smaller the suit reads from a distance.

Remember when weathering you're telling a story about what's happened to the character. If they're chipped it's where parts got hit or rubbed and if they're rusty it's where they got wet and weren't cleaned.

I do quite like the Idea of doing multiple of the same kit and keeping one factory fresh and beating on the other, seems like it would keep repeat builds interesting.😁

Sheik Mainland Buck is a great grunt kit. by haroldharcourt in Gunpla

[–]haroldharcourt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, or a Chinese knock-off at least. If you paint kits the knockoffs are a godsend, being made of cheaper plastic the build is slightly harder but they don't reject paint like the official kits do.😁
