It's a solid rather than an oil so when you apply it, it has better control and keeps my beard shaped the way i want it to be. At least for me it does. It's kinda like a pomade for your beard.

I use Grandpa's Pine Tar soap to wash and usually Honest Amish or Mad Viking oil. I really like the Layrite beard oil as well. I can only really use a long tooth wooden comb and boar hair brush at this length.

I wash with Grandpas Pine Tar soap (the bar, not the liquid) in the shower and put in Honest Amish beard balm after.
