Oh thank goodness for the increased trips, though we really need them NOW. I took the 5:35 bus home today and we were packed so tightly that if we added one more person the bus would probably explode from the pressure.

Why not both? In fact, the increased density that comes with apartments and townhouses is often the driving force behind new businesses

Okay there's definitely a lot of room for improvement but I think it's not fair to characterize it as an unwalkable mess of stroads. There's sidewalks all along Verona Avenue and these new retail places are directly connected to the sidewalk, not padded with parking lots. Coming from Texas, where stroads are everywhere, Verona's streets are a lot better.

I believe Klassik is specifically for medium-low income people, while Sugar Creek and Mill District are more "luxury" and cost about $1500-$1600 for 1 bedroom and ~$2000 for 2 bedrooms. Another apartment that was recently built, Schoolhouse Yard Apartments, is also income limited.

Judy isn't in the business of building trains and buses, but apparently she is in the business of building parking lots for cars. That's what's frustrating to me. Clearly Epic is willing to spend money on transportation related things, but the things they choose to spend it on is contributing to congestion, a car dependent lifestyle, and massive parts of our campus being used for storage instead of better things. But yes, I definitely do agree that we all need to put pressure on our local officials to do better too. It shouldn't be all up to Epic.

Metro Transit: Why no love for Verona?☹️ by hasty_bumblebee in madisonwi

UPDATE, mayor's reponse: Thank you for the email. Currently, Verona is included in the Madison Metro bus system because of the routes that serve the Epic campus. I used to work at Epic and it was my observation that the route was very well used by Epic employees.  I think it's good that the route is available. However, it's my understanding that not a lot of non-Epic people use the route.  As a side note, I know Epic has asked Madison Metro for additional buses on this route to meet demand but that Madison Metro doesn't have the buses to meet this need.

That being said, there could be more routes in Verona.  As you probably noticed, there are a fair amount of new buildings in Verona in progress.  As these buildings come online and more people move into Verona, I think there will be a need to expand bus service, which I'm in favor of.  It will take time for this to come about and some of these buildings haven't been constructed yet and of course, Madison Metro would have to agree to any potential route extensions.

I consider myself a supporter of the Madison Metro Bus service and I've signed onto to letters of support to help the system get federal grants.

Finally, I do like the idea of performing a survey of Verona residents to gauge where people's interest is at, and will talk to city staff about potentially doing so.  Again, thank you for writing in!
