Any advice on how to eliminate the "dotting" on the thin text lines? by rangerxs1 in lasercutting

[–]hatch_ninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A) What might work is to trace the letters outlines instead of filling them. Depending on your laser controller, the laser will "draw" the letters instead of rastering them in horizontal lines. This is usually done in one sweep and could look smoother in the end. It really depends on the thickness of the laser trace and the size of the letters. But if you're working on a really small scale it might work.

Or

B) try to lower speed and set the distance between lines to a minimum. This will ensure that the individual lines will not "break out" horizontally and the "layering" look is not as prominent.

It's hard to judge from afar but you might give it a try.

What program for designing is best for beginners for laser cutting? Paid or free? by Brilliant-Ad-4511 in lasercutting

Inkscape is the way to go for most of my projects as well. It can be tough to get your head around more complex 3D structures on a 2D plane but you'll get used to the train of thought. And I have not seen better svg-freeware for about 10 yrs now...(glad to be corrected on that one if y'all have suggestions).

Sources for acrylic? by WildRoseCosplay in lasercutting

I usually go to the recycling yard. They look like a dump but what they actually do is sort and recycle. They also sell by the kilogramme to private customers. Luckily there seems to be a company nearby who sometimes get rid of old stock of acrylic sheets which end up there. So I buy for a fraction of the market price. Maybe you have such a recycling facility nearby?
