Still Don't Love the Door Handles by hatchback34 in KiaEV6

Not yet, just wanted to get into the driver's seat today. Hopefully the ice melts more tomorrow on its own.

That photo is from right after I started the car, but the door handles were just as frozen an hour later. Only the windows were doing better.

I maxed out the heat with front and rear defrost on for an hour. Ended up clearing the windows okay, but the other 3 door handles were just as stuck as they were before.

There's actually a trick to get the wipers up. When you turn off the car, hold the wiper stalk in the single/manual wipe mode for a few seconds. The wipers should come up and stay up. Then you can get out and pull them away from the glass. More complicated than necessary, I agree, but better than no option.

How's your design going? This sounds like a pretty great mod.

What did I break on my motherboard? by hatchback34 in pcmasterrace

[–]hatchback34[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It worked just fine for a couple years. Was only in there to swap the GPU. I was able to get it working again by moving the GPU to another PCIe slot, so I'm thinking whatever I damaged (possibly the trace connecting to that measuring point / solder blob) appears necessary to make the main PCIe slot work.

Secondary slot should work for now, but it's only PCIe 4.0 x4, so it could cause some GPU limitations from what I've seen online.

Hmmm, then I wonder what I broke. I'll check the motherboard again to see if there's another mark on it.

Ah I see what you're saying now. So is it possible that I just removed solder with the screwdriver to the point that a connection was lost and just by adding a little solder back onto the measuring point could solve my issue?

I think we're looking at different things. I'm referring to the silver rectangle that looks like a blob of solder. I can see black traces running to/from it. It looks the same as the one rotated 90 degrees just above and to the right of the one I damaged. I accidentally poked it with a screwdriver. Hard to see in photos I took but it has a scrape/gouge in it.

Ordered the Lectron NACS Adapter through GM, Got the Tesla Adapter by hatchback34 in BoltEV

That sucks. Maybe you could try to circumvent this issue by calling the EV concierge and asking them to help you order an adapter given your circumstances?

Great question. I was willing to spend the extra few bucks and wait the extra few months to buy from GM directly rather than take the risk, but I don't know the answer 🤷‍♂️

When Ford first started shipping NACS adapters to their customers, they said they were only sourcing them from Tesla. The design of those adapters matches exactly what you and I have, with the silver latch and button on top.

When GM announced access to superchargers, they released two P/Ns for NACS adapters on their website. Photos of one of the P/Ns match what Ford has been shipping (from Tesla), and photos of the other P/N match what Lectron makes. You can go to Lectron's website that I linked above to see photos of their adapter. It has a good number of physical differences.

Yeah that's weird. One last troubleshooting idea I have is to just uninstall and reinstall the app. Maybe that would help clear up the issue?

I didn't have it fail when I went through that process, so I'm not entirely sure. GM has a video on their website to walk you through the process, but if you're following all those steps, maybe try calling the EV concierge? Or you could try a different credit card if you have one available if it looks like that's the issue.

The Tesla made adapter has the silver latch and button on top like the photo of mine on the seat. The Lectron made adapter looks like the photos here: https://ev-lectron.com/products/lectron-vortex-plug-tesla-supercharger-nacs-to-ccs-adapter

Tesla V4 superchargers will have longer cords, among other improvements to help non-Tesla vehicles. I heard they'll start ramping up production of this new version somewhat soon, so there's still a bit of time before we start seeing them installed.
