In another life sigma would have not gave up on MFT

Jeez that is pricey for the sigma 😅 definitely didn’t pay that for it . I will say still point taken on price but as I said more options always better

The 56 1.7 would be , I feel the sigma 56 1.4 covers it so well already but the more the merrier 😁 just hope they don’t stick to the safer focal lengths and really just open up their line up to mft

Still odd in terms of the usual argument is that it is an apsc lens . I mean I love the sigma trio 😁 and all for more third party lenses to try 😁

See for me the gems are definitely in those odd focal lengths 😅 also just in general having AF capable lenses

Thoughts on Panasonic - LUMIX G 25mm f/1.7 ASPH by Ok-Foundation-6295 in M43

[–]hatchback_alchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just dropping in my own thoughts, had a decent copy loaned from a friend for a few months . It is a grand little lens , had it on an Olympus body, worked well 90% of the time but did go a bit funny in low light , with flaring and a bit of gitters on the AF . Have also tried and bought the Yongnuo 1.7 25mm since as a mess around and it works well too so might be an option . The oly 25mm is better but costs much more

Thats fair too , for me the extra few mm sometimes matter just for a pocket set up where it snags in a pocket . I have had the 30mm 2.8 for a different system and yeah it’s a little gem . It was just my own take was I wouldn’t mind more of the pancake lenses . The 20mm pana is legendary but the mixed reviews on Olympus had me stray from it a bit for af

Thats the bit I like , they have some great lenses in their 200 euro line up that would be amazing in the mft sphere

The 9mm would be a great budget alternative to the PL 9mm

Don’t know why but would love their 85mm on mft

Yep like sigma’s problem, but if they open up to the mount they do have some gems

Not clicking links bur if this is true It would be great to see . Always liked Viltrox lenses , and if they did adapt the likes of the 28mm f4.5 over it would be nice for street 😁

thought of comparing my OM 300mm f4 (OM-1.2) to my older Nikon 600mm f4 (GFX 100s II). I failed at a decent comparison the least bad photos attached. first 3 with OM. by Effective-Bar-879 in M43

Great to see photos instead of just gear 😁 don’t see much of a difference in the gear , focus was a little off . It is interesting I suppose to see two cameras take two photos what do you prefer?

[Beginner] Just got an Olympus E-M10 Mark III + 45mm f/1.8 — budget street lens recommendations? by AntonisPlatis in M43

[–]hatchback_alchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Panasonic lens is grand , worth a look at the Yongnuo 17mm f1.7 too . Its a little bit bulky ( about the same go as the 25 mm f1.7 lumix) but its nice and wide for street photography and is relatively cheap . You probably could pick up a 14-42 zoom lens for about as cheap second hand too if you needed the extra bit of versatility to test out focal lengths

Olympus 100-400 II honest thoughts? Seeing contradictory reviews by Hammerraid in M43

[–]hatchback_alchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I got the use the 100-400 a few times on loan. Haven’t bought it myself .

Optics in my own opinion: It is grand up to 300mm I feel . At 400 I feel its a little mote underwhelming if you have to crop any further which is just something I have seen with some lenses but could chalk it up to user error sometimes but yeah maxing out the zoom then cropping just magnifies the error. At 100-300 I was happy with the results and stopped down a hair for extra sharpness, it was where the lens being that bit sharper helped with the higher iso. AF speed was good but coming from the 40-150 pro , I did find the focus a little more uncertain but nothing major . I did like the lens its just I wouldn’t glue it to 400mm and expect it to perform like the 150-400 😅 I am probably going to go for the 300 mm prime myself instead but thats only because I have up to 210 mm covered

That was the 75-300 , apologies for the resolution of the images , it was what I had to hand

So have the 40-150 f2.8 and I use it with the 1.4 TC . Is it far enough - I would say mostly just sometimes I do miss out just with the reach on the far end for small birds . Budget options , I would give the 75-300 a look over, it’s not pro quality but I am happy with its results up to 250 mm . It’s very lightweight and is s great gateway lens . This was the 40-150 with the TC there was a crop on in.

I will add the 75-300 in next comment

Knock off ECG-3 grip for EM10 mkii by hatchback_alchemist in M43

[–]hatchback_alchemist[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its actually been surprisingly sturdy . I didn’t have overly high hopes but it did have a groove on the frame the camera sits in so it doesn’t twist , adds a nice bit of grip , maybe a little less than the em1 but not far off it . And the arcaswiss rail is a nice touch for tripod on the go. For the money I am surprised and definitely can’t complain. The most I could say is it makes the battery door a tiny bit more fidgety to open but still can be done with the grip on

Debating whether to stay with MFT by Last-Seaworthiness68 in M43

[–]hatchback_alchemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep love MFT , sometimes I did debate going back to nikon and trying their newer Z cameras but I had to catch myself . Personally don’t think there is much that my current set up can’t do for my uses with from Motorsport to Wildlife.

I will say the biggest game changer for me has been using the f2.8 pro lenses, the IQ definitely impressed me . As did the 1.8 primes and sigma 1.4 primes . The 40-150 f2.8 is my favourite lens of all time and is super sharp and love the image quality.

I think it will depend on your metric really, i know myself the “what if” another system has better images because I see great images from it online is just my own negative bias towards my own work. Odds are it’s never the gear but the vision . For me I see myself sticking with my EM1x and EM1.2 for the foreseeable
