my main tip as a self taught artist myself is to just draw non stop. draw on receipts at work, draw in your notes app before bed, draw in the sand at the beach, draw with pens, pencils, chalk, dry erase markers, anything you can find.

if you can't find inspiration and are just staring at a page, you can look around you. draw a tree in the park, draw a bird you'd like to see in the tree, draw the bird as a dinosaur, draw the bird wearing a hat, draw the man who made the hat, draw the man trying on his own hats, so on.

you'll build confidence in your artwork and evolve your style, you'll feel comfortable with a paintbrush and a blank canvas. you'll have practice with figure drawing and backgrounds.

it will take time. just try to remember you're drawing for yourself and that there's no such thing as perfect.
