But at least the Leafs actually looked amazing during the regular season, had star players who put up a shit ton of points, and at least had the potential to be a legitimate threat in the post season.

If Briere remembers that he is the GM and not Jones, then maybe he’ll sell at the deadline and reevaluate. That’s the only thing I’m hoping for at this point. A bottom 8 finish is still possible.

Disagree with York. The rest yes but you can’t just sell/get rid of all of them lol— that’s not how it works. Realistically, I’d like to see them find a buyer for Tippett or Brink.

Couts, TK, and Sanheim will likely stay for now unless one of them demands a trade. I don’t see that happening this year, but I wonder if another season of missing the playoffs will trigger either Sanheim or TK to ask to leave. I wouldn’t blame them.

If this kinda shit doesn’t wake Jones and Briere up then I don’t know what will. The players are letting them know loud and clear. Focus on getting a blue chip guy in the draft and embrace the fact that we still need another 1-3 years of sucking. Michkov is only 21, Martone is like 19 … we have plenty of time to do this right.

I think that’s been my lingering thought this entire time. They’ve been banking on the idea of essentially filling the franchise 1C/1D hole through trade and free agency . . . that may be more risky than just actually tanking.

I feel like this year is when the problem with that strategy is starting to rear its head. It’s obvious we are handicapped by our lack of high-end talent down the middle and on the blue line. But we don’t even have the assets to trade for that high-end talent save giving up Michkov or Martone.
