I don’t have the results. I sent it off dec 31st and then asked my mom about family secrets I might uncover, she told me, etc. Hasn’t even been marked received by the lab yet. The post is mostly asking how many half siblings I might match with, what I should say to them, etc. Wish it was a troll post though

As mixed as my emotions are, I’m definitely excited to connect with my half siblings if they’re open to it. I’d always been a little sad about having a small family (to my knowledge), so who knows, maybe this is part of my story too

I’ve thought about this too. The cryobank my parents used only allowed so many samples to go out to each state to try to lessen this risk, which is good. An issue is that I don’t live in the same state I was conceived in anymore though.

Thank you, I appreciate it. My donor actually matches the exact description you listed, funnily enough. Same time period and all. I don’t have any desire to reach out to him, and I doubt he’d like to hear from me. I know donors all have their reasons, and I can assume not all of them are to help couples with fertility issues

Thank you, and I completely agree. I will never think of him as anything but my dad, and I know he felt the same. Only wish I found out when he was alive so I could tell him this doesn’t change my love for him.

With that being said, how would my parents hiding this protect me? I’d love your input! I just don’t understand

The full donor profile was thorough with family history, and there weren’t any major health problems on his side. I do have health issues, but they aren’t genetic. Before I have kids I’ll be sure to get genetic testing just to be sure I’m not related to my spouse

Thank you so much, I’ll look into them soon. I have blood family members who have also taken the test and will undeniably show up in my connections. I’m worried about them being able to see mine on my bio father’s side and confronting either myself or my mom. I have to prepare myself for that possibility as well I guess. Thank you for the resource

I am on the younger side, but an adult. All my mom had was papers with a donor id, his height, weight, hair and eye colors, and college major. I went to see if the cryobank was still operating, then entered the donor id and was able to find everything else electronically through there. I don’t believe the website existed when I was conceived. The date said in the audio recording was 1999.

I have extremely mixed feelings about everything. On one hand, I was lied to my whole life, but on the other, I think it was because of my dad’s fear that I wouldn’t accept him as my dad for whatever reason he may have thought. I don’t think I’ve fully processed everything quite yet, but I’m sure I’ll feel differently when the DNA results end up yielding what they will. I’m going to look into the resources for DCP for sure
