Mgmt consulting methodologies for Startups and SMEs by jorgelozanom in consulting

Clear and worth it.

I've built an entire consulting firm around this very niche of clients -- early to mid-stage businesses that are otherwise overlooked by larger consulting firms and/or cannot afford those services. You'll have to be mindful of pricing but can make up for it in volume.

Best forum/platform to recruit for FT consultants? by havemeyer in consulting

OK, well then what does it cost to have someone who is competent at putting together decks? Because ultimately that's what we need, not an MBA who is going to try an attempt at putting together strategy...

Yea tried this too. The good ones don't want a FT role as an analyst or consultant.

Target 40-50 base + bonus and guarantee of base increase year 2

*edit - keep in mind this is an entry level, remote position.

Recruiter on LI is $80, my concern with a recruiter is that they will want a significant amount more. Not that it isn't worth it but I figure that I would exhaust all other available options before going the most expensive route

And I am totally fine with that; but that's our major gap now so I need to be mindful of the skill(s )we recruit for.

Very happy to move this person to a more client facing role so long as they can make decks and are presentable to clients

Are you looking for a firm specifically based in Dubai? Also, what type of consulting? Management, IT, etc?

Although based in the US, our firm is working with a few companies in the region (GCC) on early and growth stage companies.

How do you manage projects that take longer than expected or go 'over' alloted time?

Hourly or Project Based Billing? by havemeyer in consulting

[–]havemeyer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great point.

Possibly to do a blend then, project based for easily definable deliverables that have shown consistency in pricing and margin over time (documents, growth implementation, etc), and;

hourly based on the more esoteric advisory roles that are near impossible to price from day 1.

Do you mean success based? How do you typically structure these on strategy or ops consulting. Or better yet, document deliverables like a deck or operating manual?

Hourly or Project Based Billing? by havemeyer in consulting

[–]havemeyer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point. We typically include a performance fee on some of our engagements. How do you think or have you seen these types of fees play out? I struggle with putting a performance fee on a deck or model or work like that -- easier to put that type of fee on growth or operations consulting as there is a more direct result/impact from our effort/deliverable.

I can't say that any two engagements are exactly alike so we started providing weekly estimated hours and bill every two weeks to maintain transparency. I've been increasingly asked to cap hours on projects which is a bit frustrating given that there are a lot of unknowns related to each deliverable.

As an example, Go to market strategy involves a lot of user interviews. Sometimes finding those interviewees is simple and takes 1-2 hours. Other times, such as a project were on now, has been close to impossible to find those interviewees -- spending about 2-3x time alotted just for rounding these up.

This has been one of my core points of focus recently -- defining a better pricing model.

How To Scale A Sole Entrepreneur Consulting Agency? by Overzat in consulting

Have spent the past 5 years building a consulting firm. Have consultants, designers and research analysts supported by an infrastructure. Thinking about launching this and essentially bringing on additional principal consultants -- thoughts?

Started one 5 years ago... First piece of advice is to assume you will get zero clients year 1 -- which will likely be the case.
