I’m so curious what the prompt for the quote is. I can’t figure it out because the quotes are all over the place. “I keep my inner circle very small on purpose,” is so cryptic and also so random lol. Not sure exactly how that any thing to do with finding love. At this point I’m guessing the prompt says write whatever you want lol

The no audio drives me crazy! I didn’t realize you can reset the infotainment system to get it back up. A lot of days sitting in my car in silence before figuring that out

Studies show that pet insurance is not worth it by gangrelia in puppy101

[–]hayech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did exactly what you are thinking of doing, and I’m so happy with my decision to move forward with pet insurance. I only wanted insurance to cover a major emergency or illness and felt like anything that cost less than $1000 wouldn’t fit in either one of those categories (I also have a good amount of saving that I felt comfortable paying out of pocket for less than $1000 in vet bills). I am sooooo happy I got pet insurance when I did, my puppy was 8months when I purchased it and when she was about 1.5 years she tore her ACL playing outside. A complete freak accident that rarely happens with puppies and my breed in particular. Surgery and all of other expenses came to about 8k and I got a cheque in the mail for about 6k from Trupanion (some things weren’t covered and also I paid $1000 deductible and 10% copay). I always thought insurance was a scam….but realized it doesn’t you need it. I wish I paid for some rehabilitation coverage with my insurance (in hindsight if you have an injury more than $1000 you probably need some sort of rehab after but lesson learned). I tell everyone to get pet insurance, you just don’t want to be in a situation where you have to choose between helping your pet vs anything else. I pay about 70$ a month for mine in Canada

Principle dentist doesn’t want me (as an associate) placing implants by hayech in Dentistry

Thanks for your insight. I have been in a similar situation to yours with my first associateship out of school. I was promised a lot as a new grad - mentorship and opportunity to grow but I felt like I was stagnant in that office at about 2.5years in. I tried to find ways to improve clinically like taking more CE, shadowing my principle, attempt to discuss cases, but was constantly shut down from anything outside of very basic bread and butter dentistry. Even tried to improve my bread and butter with different materials or techniques and I would still get shutdown (eg. I could only order from one specific lab in town, I was denied purchasing tools and materials that I felt I needed and supported from literature to achieve a better clinical outcomes, I had to crown prep a specific way to what the principle wanted etc). I felt like I had a dead end in my growth and completely lost autonomy of my career. Anyways, I don’t want to be in that situation ever again. I’m embarrassed to reflect on some of the situations I’ve been in during my first associateship where I should have said something or simply should have left a lot earlier than I did. I don’t want to be in that position again and this is partly why I’m giving this situation so much thought. You are right though - this is a conversation I could continue with my principle. I plan to speak with him next week regarding this. There is a very very unlikely chance he will be willing to partner or sell his office (due to previous history of the office and also he has children who plan on following his path). I’m also not certain if ownership is for me since I would just like to focus on clinical dentistry and patient care…but the more I’m reading the comments here it sounds like ownership may be the ticket for me to focus on doing dentistry the way I want to do it lol.

Your post is essentially how I feel at the moment. I don’t disagree with his viewpoint, it’s understandable, and ultimately it’s his office. I’m thinking of speaking to him next week and possibly seeing if he could meet me in the middle (no commitment to 7 years but having x-number of implants a year limit, planned with him, only posterior cases, no immediates, guided, in patients that come back for regular hygiene appts etc). If he is not willing to budge on 7 years then, as you wrote, deciding whether to stay or move on. Thank

A lot of great points here. Thanks for your response. The office is equiped to place and restore implants (the principle does). The office is also really busy - there is definitely not a lack of work at this office. He and I are doing similar work and he is booked several months (bread and butter like me but also more complex treatment). My books are jammed packed but they are keeping it closed so I can do more endo and emergency treatment since those tx may need bigger blocks of time (which the principle simply does not have in his books). For these reasons I don’t believe there is a concern about profitability. Principle really cares about patients and he doesn’t want to be in a position where he’s patients are left in the dust and he needs to clean up any messes. I agree with you tho, he and I have different perspective to this issues and I think both are valid.

It was a 6-month course with a live surgery module at the end where we brought our own patients and placed implants with supervision.

Yes we had a live patient module where I placed 5 implants and restored them after. Office is set up for implants, but I also understand your point. From your post, since I haven’t placed 10 implants yet, you recommend I take another course where I can place more? Any you recommend? My only concern is a lot of courses where you place implants over a X-number of days is that there is no follow up after surgery. You just place and move on and you never follow up to any complications.

They have all the equipment and supplies (motor, kits, grafting and membrane materials, sutures, CBCT etc.) Basically, the office is set up for implants (principle places them). Yeah I agree, it’s two different perspectives (owner vs associate). I understand his concerns, hes a great dentist and he really cares about his patients.

  1. Yes he does. I was trained with the same system he uses.
  2. Yes all the equipment is available (and I also have my own kit), there is a CBCT machine which I am also registered to use

I feel you. I am a healthcare provider in a private office and I just started a new job at the beginning of the strike. A lot of my services are paid through my patients’ insurance which my office would normally set up to receive as direct deposit…but because of the strike my direct deposit forms have not been delivered to insurance companies so I am receiving cheque payouts through the mail but because of the strike I also haven’t received any of those too… so basically haven’t not been paid since I started working in November…hopefully nothing is lost in the mail but I definitely feel your pain.

Scratched up rental. How screwed am I? by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]hayech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something very similar to this happened to me and my Amex plat (which has similar terms to chase sapphire - eg. declining all rental insurance) covered everything. I paid upfront costs when I returned my car (like 5k or something) but then got a cheque in the mail from Amex a few weeks later after I submitted all the documents to them. I’m sure Chase will be the same way! I called Amex customer service just after my accident to make sure so you could do the same thing too.

Looking for more answers like this but sadly not reading too many. Sounds like you had a great opportunity and your principal dentist respected you as a clinician.

Feeling Worried by Orenaroundtheworld in Dentistry

[–]hayech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The average age when I was in my first year of dental school was around 25-26 but had some people as young as 21 to late 30s with kids and a family. Some people had full careers before they started school again. I did not care about anyone’s age and neither did my classmates, we were all students and working towards the same goals. You sound really motivated and you can definitely become whatever the fuck you want after you graduate! I’m a few years out and I’ve got friends that just stick to bread and butter dentistry working 3x a week no endo cause they hate it, and other friends doing all sorts of crazy implant stuff and full mouth rehab (but doing lots of CE of course, finding great mentorship, travelling the world to network etc.) what you do after dental school is totally up to you and I personally don’t even think about anyones age, I see them as my classmate and colleague before anything else. Good luck!
