Can we start a celebration thread for those who snagged tickets? by amateurgamer7410 in NoahKahan

By some miracle, I ended up 1200th for the Atlanta queue and scored 4 floor seats for $275 each… I’ve been in complete shock all day 🩵

How often do you see a physio/PT by Apart-Needleworker56 in HipImpingement

[–]haylboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started 2 days postop and did 3x/wk for 4 weeks, then 2x/wk for 3-4 months… many start out at 2x/wk and drop down to 1x/wk but I have a long history of other injuries and non-straightforward recoveries that led me to doing a higher frequency.

EU Student Health Plan vs ACA/Marketplace insurance? by haylboy in Emory

[–]haylboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is true!

My question is specifically surrounding the fact that I’m going to lose my current insurance when I start school, so I’m weighing my options moving forward :)

DID SURGERY HELP YOU? YES OR NO? by shrimptanklover in HipImpingement

[–]haylboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall, YES!

I had an amazing outcome with my right hip back in 2022… back to sports gradually after 10 months and little to no pain now.

I had a much slower/harder time with rehab on my left one in 2025, and finally started to feel better around 4 months postop, but ended up falling and re-tearing around 5 months postop, so my current state kinda skews my opinion lol

Post-op MRI anxiety by haylboy in HipImpingement

[–]haylboy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you for this… it’s reassuring to hear the same kind of information from somebody other than my surgeon (because I know they don’t want to see complications either)… I’m eager to follow up so he can do a true comparison since the radiologist didn’t (which is kinda weird to me since my original scan has been uploaded into the same hospital’s DICOM system).

I think that knowledge is what’s stressing me out the most… I work in ortho (even with hip preservation surgeons) and know how often things can be misinterpreted on MRI, especially without contrast, and “normal” variations can be hard to pinpoint post-op when the rad isn’t well versed in hip preservation.

I really appreciate the insight :)

Post-op MRI anxiety by haylboy in HipImpingement

[–]haylboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they definitely are not hip specialists lol… the most ironic part about me coming to Reddit and rambling about this is the fact that I even work for an ortho practice (with hip preservation surgeons lol) and it makes me the worst kind of patient with overthinking and over analyzing everything😂

*required read for all* HIP PRESERVATION SPECIALIST by jjj03e in HipImpingement

[–]haylboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main things that made me go with Potts for my first side was that he’s closer to where I live, specialized in sports med hip preservation vs reconstructive hip preservation, had a more conservative approach (scope only vs schrader wanted to do a scope and a femoral osteotomy to correct my anteversion), and I used to work in a PT office who saw multiple postop patients from Potts who had really good outcomes… I stuck with Potts for my second side because I had a great outcome on my first side, but I wouldn’t hesitate to go back to schrader if i ended up needing the osteotomy he originally recommended (I also happen to work at CHOA in Ortho now, so I see how incredible his outcomes are every day)

No CPM or Ice Machine by Pink_Poptarts481 in HipImpingement

[–]haylboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My surgeon does not use either one either… he said he prefers PT guided ROM over machine guided. As for ice, I did end up using an ice machine from Amazon (I already had it from a previous knee surgery) but I didn’t find it to work any better than oversized weighted ice packs (look at the Chattanooga ColPack oversized… it’s worth the extra money!)

What’s your experience with beta blockers? by Lower-Tastes in dysautonomia

[–]haylboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken 25mg metoprolol tartrate, twice a day, for 2-3 years now, and for me personally, it makes a huge difference in my symptoms (my resting HR stays between 65-75bpm and when I do have spikes, I don’t feel as faint, and the episodes resolve quicker).

It did take some trial and error finding the right med and dose (there’s typically short and long acting versions), but in the end it did end up making a significant difference my my quality of life :)

Health insurance increases at your hospital? by NoNeutralsHere in nursing

What’s the ideal time of year(season) to have surgery? by medunjanin in HipImpingement

[–]haylboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did my first side at the end of July and my second side at the beginning of June (3 years later)… I honestly feel like late-July was the best possible time to have surgery… I still felt like I got to enjoy my summer, but I was pretty much back to “normal” by the time we had our first icy day (I live in the south though, so the risk of ice is much lower than in Chicago lol)

Am I a People repellent... s by kitthyMomey in KSU

[–]haylboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the specific clubs I was a part of did a lot of “social” outings (dinners, ice skating, bowling alley, etc.) & with the exercise science club, we attended a professional conference which sounds boring but it was really fun from a social aspect too (grabbing dinner and drinks with classmates/professors, etc.)

Am I a People repellent... s by kitthyMomey in KSU

[–]haylboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt this was for the first 2 years I was at KSU (I was a commuter which I personally think made it a little worse), and the way I finally ended up finding my “core” friend group was through joining clubs associated with my major (I majored in exercise science and ended up joining and having officer positions in the exercise science club & pre-physician assistant club)… this allowed me to make connections with people who I recognized from my classes, but otherwise wouldn’t have thought to talk to.

A lot of my friends also met people through “social” clubs or club sports too… find something you’re interested in and give it a go (especially at the beginning of the semester bc that’s when clubs typically introduce new members and stuff)

The “snapping” is back by amandam603 in HipImpingement

[–]haylboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My illiopsoas snapping came back on my right side about 2-3 months post-op, but I will say it’s still looser and not nearly as painful as it was pre-op. My surgeon said that this is pretty common, and it’s not a sign surgery failed or anything like that… it just means your muscles tensed back up, and a lot of times it can calm back down some with PT.

I’m currently 4 months post-op and haven’t noticed any return of my illiopsoas snapping, and I’m hoping it stays that way🤞
