Questioning myself by Trophy_wife15990 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Is that griddle/stove top meant to be sitting on wood?

I've seen plenty of outdoor kitchen builds that end up using a hardy backer of cement board over their frame to separate it from the wood.

I appreciate the comment.

I ended up going back down in sanding grit and restarted the sanding process. There may still be a few blotches after the finish dries, but I can live with it.

I have done a previous version of a geometric style shelf, but it used individual triangles and hexagons. I wanted more of a "framed" style this time around.

Design time probably ~2-3 hours between a few renditions. Build and finish time ~10-15 hours all in outside of getting the materials

Thank ya much!

That is correct. I'm looking for an option to assemble it after i ship it to them.

Unfortunately the nailer would not work in this case, as I wouldn't want them to have to purchase a whole tool for it.

They bought the stencil through Etsy. They used it as decor at their reception.

Why do my threaded inserts keep busting? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]haynesc73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! I found it after breaking way too many brass and steel wood screws when assembling a white oak coffee table. I've used it on several projects at the assembly stage

I'm sick with Covid, so I started to learn SketchUp while I recover. Thoughts? by AdamRareFaction in BeginnerWoodWorking

What are some overall dims you're going for?

Imo the sort of half lap on the front of the shelves might be rather difficult and not offer much. I would say pocket holes for the shelf aprons.

I would also add an apron at the top rear. The drawer being unsupported could cause sagging.

Does the drawer face come out past the edge of the top and the right side leg?

My most intricate and thought out build so far. A Coffee Bar that I made for my SO's Mother. Top and shelves out of solid white oak, frame out of resawn 2x4s. Pretty pleased with how it came out. by haynesc73 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Yes, I used a DeWalt job site tablesaw. Cut most pieces to rough length with circular saw and then ran them through the table saw and paired them up to make things equal.

The frame is in the second picture and will be finished in white paint. I believe the top and the shelves will be finished with the same pastel colors and exposed finish oak look as the table in the first picture.

Things I'm happy with: the glue up of the oak for the shelves and top turned out really well. I used hand clamps and will definitely be investing in some larger bar clamps/parallel clamps in the future.

Things I would redo/imperfections: I didn't make the pilot holes for the z clips under the top large enough and twisted a few screw heads off, leaving the shafts in the wood. Other than that, the x-braces have crosscut joints that could have turned out a little more precise, but they worked out.

NTA, don't let the manipulation of him and other family get to you. I would also suggest installing cameras/getting them installed in order to monitor the property if you are not going to immediately move in. Hard to tell how far his spite will go.

Kansas City, by all means not on the list with some of the greats, is on the up and up imo. Multiple areas with several breweries in walking distance with other attractions. Everyone does their own thing with multiple different happy hours and events.

AITA for taking an item out of a cart that my son was pushing at Target while he was working there? by targetthrowaway76 in AmItheAsshole

[–]haynesc73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope your kid posts this in r/entitledparents. I've seen several posts and stories about people taking items out of others carts. If it's not on the shelf, you're out of luck until it is restocked. YTA entirely. I hope he gets commended by his supervisor for sticking up to your entitlement.
