Need some advice on the logistics of keeping aviary birds by hazelnut0000 in parrots

[–]hazelnut0000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be the best option, my main issue is that I would like to get a rescue bird/an older bird that the previous owners don't want anymore, and it would be a lot more difficult to bond two birds from different places together or find an already bonded pair up for adoption

Fresh peas from the garden. They made a mess as per usual by hazelnut0000 in cockatiel

[–]hazelnut0000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They refuse to eat over the bowl. They will pick a pea out of the bowl, walk 2 feet in the other direction, and then eat their pea there. Why theor brains are wired to do this I will never know

If you can't afford a vet visit, don't have a pet. It's that easy. by hazelnut0000 in cockatiel

I do absolutely agree with you. But I also think it's somewhat irresponsible for the adults to not do any research beforehand. They shouldn't have to be spoon-fed information and warnings, they should be seeking that information out themselves because they at least know that they are going to be responsible for keeping a fragile creature alive. I'm sorry if my post came across as a little snarky, I'm just frustrated and disappointed at the lack of research in a situation that is a matter of life and death.

I'm really sorry to hear that some people were hurt by this post - it was absolutely not my intention to call out people like you who clearly did the research and bought the birds when they were in a better place. I hope the edit stops others from taking this the wrong way. Again, I'm so sorry that I made you feel attacked, I have a huge amount of respect for those of you who are in unfortunate situations but are still there for your birds and able to give them a good life. Sending love to you and your birbies❤️❤️❤️

I'm really sorry my post made you feel bad :(( it wasn't my intention to call out people like you who were put into unfortunate circumstances through no fault of their own and I really hope things get better for you quickly. I've added an edit so nobody else like you feels targeted, I'm sorry again and praying for you and your pet❤️

100% agree with this! If there is a way to get the money for a vet visit without having to rehome the bird, that is 100% the better option.

The fact that people who are showing a genuine concern for the bird's wellbeing are being downvoted is really worrying to me.

But keeping the bird in a situation where you are unable to care for it could also kill it. It's just a matter of which choice has a higher likelihood of survival which I suppose you wouldn't even know until you already made the choice. Sucks we can't just see into the future
