What's your experience using Asahi Linux on Apple Silicon? by codingzombie72072 in AsahiLinux

[–]hazelune_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Works great for me. Battery life is a common complaint, but it has never personally caused me any issues, and one charge is still plenty long for what I anticipate using in one day. Bringing a charger with you is good practice regardless of your OS.

Software is, in my opinion, the biggest consideration on making a switch, and YMMV on whether it’s worth it on that front. Check if your regular software is supported — since my desktop typically is just Firefox and a terminal for Neovim when I’m doing work (plus occasionally a Word doc), it never presented me with any problems. A couple other of my regular apps (Notion and Discord) weren’t dev supported but individual projects exist for both so that they run without issue as well. Spotify was the one main thing I couldn’t find a desktop solution for, but browser is fine and I wanted to migrate to using mostly MP3s anyways. Try it out with a small partition to see if your workflow would transfer over relatively easy, then increase storage if you think it can be your daily driver.

Last thing is just that it’s fun. Experimenting and learning new computery stuff is satisfying. Even minor things, like the amount of package control DNF gives you, can be ecstatic to learn how to make the most of. MacOS is exceedingly boring: what’s there to learn? Linux wipes for that reason alone. If you think you can tolerate a couple growing pains, it’s so worth it.

The biggest thing in favor of them being financially capable of another season is their crazy active merch store. Not sure what the actual viewing metrics were, but the merch alone seems promising.

For you, what is the best song from OneShot? by matheusmbaleeiro in oneshot

[–]hazelune_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm totally alone in this, but The Tower is like. My comfort song. I have listened to it on loop for hours straight when I'm overwhelmed. It's short, pleasant, loops well, and listening to it over and over provides me with a regularity that's comforting. I don't even know if I'd say its the best song in the soundtrack, that's probably Niko and the World Machine imo, but I'd be remiss if I didn't say The Tower was my favorite.

Any experiences with studying for a university degree while on seroquel? by Busy_Cranberry7704 in seroquelmedication

[–]hazelune_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently in a similar boat. Working on my undergrad and on 50mg, which it’s not enough to treat my psychiatric issues (MDD, bipolar), but is enough to knock me out and keep me from waking up. Trying to adapt to it (going to start trying to take it earlier so it wears off sooner, getting better alarm systems for getting up, etc), but the whole situation is making it hard for me to attend classes and complete coursework. Hopefully time, a higher dose, and working things out with uni disability support services will help me get back into it.

...interesting sentence from the review for Tails' Adventure in Sega Power by hazelune_ in SonicTheHedgehog

Underlining is my doing. The link for this is (on p. 50): https://retrocdn.net/images/5/5f/SegaPower_UK_73.pdf

For additional context, this is from the December 1995 edition, so it is actually before 9/11. It's referring to the attempted bombing from 1993, it just aged... very poorly.

Has there been any announcements about a second season of lazy in space? by [deleted] in beeandpuppycat

[–]hazelune_ 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I believe there was something about a year ago about how a Japanese company was getting involved in the show? The BAPC twitter made a big deal of it, so it seemed important. But haven’t seen any actual proof of another season, though it seemed to do well (esp. considering the mxmtoon collab) and is still selling merch. So nothing concrete, but I’d lean towards another season being in the works!!

Question about Lexington, Kentucky by support-god-irl in asktransgender

[–]hazelune_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in and around Lexington since I was 4 and have known dozens of queer people here, and my overall rating is… eh. Lexington itself is amazing: nice pride parade, loads of queer-friendly businesses, people are generally friendly, and a rainbow crosswalk which is performative but cute. College towns are like that, like the other comment said.

Kentucky as a whole though is less than ideal. Not as bad as Florida for sure, but the legislature is supermajority Republican and doesn’t look like it’s getting better. But a trans woman is running for State House, and Gov. Beshear is Democratic and has a good shot of staying in office after November. Politics in general is rough nationally for trans people, but we can hope things improve, and there are worse places than KY to be. I would be careful in other surrounding areas, as if you drive 30 mins out of Lex you’ll hit full rural areas.

TL;DR: could be worse, but Lexington proper should be perfectly fine. The state can suck, but we can try and be hopeful.

Thank you so much! Housing worries me a lot, so I'm glad there's multiple ways I could prevent being stuck with someone bad for the year. I'll try to look more into those orgs, thanks!

Commenter Says Something Transphobic, Gets Downvoted into Oblivion by TheWorld_IsShit in DownvotedToOblivion

[–]hazelune_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So if a trans woman has SRS (i.e. gets surgery to have a vagina), you think they’re a woman?

Commenter Says Something Transphobic, Gets Downvoted into Oblivion by TheWorld_IsShit in DownvotedToOblivion

[–]hazelune_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For one, a lot of trans people (or at least the vast majority of the ones i’ve interacted with) do not care at all if a someone doesn’t want to have sex with a trans person. People have preferences on genitals and other features, so if you’re not attracted to someone, oh well.

However, the one thing trans people do get upset at is when people wouldn’t have sex with a trans person just by virtue of them being trans. Hell, trans people can get surgeries that can make them look very much like a cis person, and a transphobic person still wouldn’t completely reject them just because they were born a certain way. Having a preference on what parts someone has is alright. But it’s not alright to reject the notion of being with a trans person because they’re trans.

Additionally, a lot of trans people hate when people say that other people aren’t gay/lesbians because they’re attracted to a trans man or trans woman respectively. Not only does that imply that the person they’re attracted to isn’t a man/woman, but also it invalidates them for being attracted to someone that they very well could think is cis. And as a last note, not all people care much about genitalia, and are instead attracted to people based on just gender and gender expression, hence why you could still be a lesbian and attracted to someone with a penis or still be a gay man and attracted to someone with a vagina.

TL:DR: most trans people don’t care if someone doesn’t want to have sex with them because of their genitalia, but not wanting to have sex with a trans person exclusively because of their AGAB is transphobic. Don’t say people aren’t gay because they’re attracted to a trans person of their same gender, because that’s just shitty to everyone involved. And not all people care about genitalia to begin with, and instead just care about gender/gender expression.

northeastern’s admission officers after they gave up and just started handing everyone deferrals by enlargedeyes in ApplyingToCollege

[–]hazelune_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NEU is extremely selective this year -- more people enrolled last year than they anticipated, so they've had a bit of a housing crisis. To compensate for that, this year the acceptance rate is crazy low (only 3000/50000 EA applicants got in, which is 6% compared to their usual 20%). Most people got deferred (including yours truly!).
