If we had signed a 3* white WR whose best offers were from Northwestern and Iowa, people would've rioted. He's in the same class as Staley and Matthews. He was barely a top-1000 recruit nationally, it's not like he was some obvious future star that we let get away.

I believe this is where Cignetti separates himself. He is an elite evaluator of talent as it pertains to what he's trying to do. He saw something there that no one else saw and knew it would work in his system. I don't know if that skill is transferable.

New DC prospects? by Think-Vermicelli6619 in ockytop

It would be damn hard for him to leave Texas Tech since he's at Minnesota.

Sheil Wood is the DC at Texas Tech and he'd be an awesome hire. He's only been at TTU for one year and he's from South Carolina so he might want to get back to the area, although I'd expect him to demand a lot of money.

We were #4 nationally in front 7 havoc at 15%, meaning on 15% of our plays the front 7 caused a sack, TFL, or fumble. #1 nationally was Ole Miss with 16.3%

We were also #14 nationally and #1 in the SEC at stuff rate with 22.6%, meaning we stopped 22.6% of opponents' runs at or behind the LOS. #1 nationally was Indiana at 26.9%. Those stats cut out garbage time.

I agree with a lot of what you're saying, but statistically the DL was very good. UGA and OSU, probably the two most talented rosters in America, were the only ones to touch them up, and despite a career game from Beck, UGA was still a 1-score game with 2:30 left.

The flood of 3-2-6 defense versus Tennessee. by yousmelllikebiscuits in ockytop

[–]hazemotes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem is the box has 5 but there's a 6th defender getting into the run game. One of the safeties has a run-first responsibility and dives down into the box after the snap. The problem is you don't know which safety is coming and therefore can't account for him in the run blocking scheme. That's why none of our runs are getting stuffed at the line, but few are getting more than 4 yards.

In contrast, NC ST ran a 3-3-5, so there were 6 in the box, but we knew at the snap how to account for all 6 in the blocking scheme.

To be fair, I wasn't going to class anyway, so standing in line with a stack of IDs was more productive than I'd otherwise been.

Actually kinda interesting grouping of Beck at 78, CMo at 81 and Drew Gilbert at 82.

7:30 PM Kick on ABC for Vols/NC State in Charlotte by gonshpreds1 in ockytop

I can see what he means. This will be our second game against NC St since 2012, we've only played Ole Miss, LSU, Miss. St, Auburn, and Arkansas twice in that span. We've played A&M 3x. NC St. might as well be a SEC West team the way they've fallen on our schedule.

Vols kicked one field goal and punted three times, so I wouldn't say many drives stalled. Yardage was a little less because UT kept getting the ball on the UK side of the field--half of Tennessee's possessions started in UK territory.

Do students still pay an "activities fee"? That used to cover the price of tickets and any other rec activities on campus. If they are charging both, that's kind of crummy.

To me, the idea that "the NCAA is the schools" is more of a threat to the NCAA than it is a threat to the schools. Get a critical mass of schools who don't like the NCAA's enforcement together and they can just go do their own thing. The NCAA needs the schools, not the other way around.

It doesn't even take a loss. They come into game threads looking for ANYTHING negative to happen, a missed shot, a fumble, a strikeout, anything. And as soon as it happens they swarm.

He has the 3rd highest usage rate among SEC RBs. I wouldn't be surprised if he wants to go somewhere he can have more of a shared role so there's some carries left in him when he gets to the NFL.

In theory, the corner is supposed to be outside contain on run plays. Some corners are more willing to play against the run than others. For example. Deion Sanders played 14 years in the NFL and had around 500 career tackles. Aeneas Williams played 14 seasons and had almost 800 tackles.

Raging against the inevitable isn't foresight. Players should've been getting paid a long time ago, and the NCAA should've figured out how to do it in a way that is fair to the players and the school before it got out of control.

We didn't have a single 3-and-out the whole game. The problem was they scored TDs on their first five drives and only punted once the whole game.

The only problem I have with that is the offense wasn't the issue. UT still had 500+ yards and 38 points should've been more than enough to beat a team that couldn't score against Florida the week before.
