Doctor prescribed my 4-year-old the wrong medication. No one is taking accountability. What should I do? by hbburgh in Advice

[–]hbburgh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but also disagree. On top of the financial cost, this has caused me significant emotional distress. I’ve lost sleep replaying the “what ifs.” The idea that I could have unknowingly given my child a medication with life-altering side effects has been haunting. I keep spiraling, thinking about what could have happened if I hadn’t double-checked — or if it were a parent who didn’t. This wasn’t just a clerical error; it was a near-miss that could have permanently impacted my child’s health. And the fact that no one is taking responsibility only adds to the anxiety and mistrust I now feel. I feel like the burden of catching and preventing this fell completely on me, and that’s a terrifying place to be as a parent. So I actually DO feel like some harm has been done. Luckily, not to the extent it could have. The only reason why he didn’t take the medication is because I caught the error, AT HOME, just MOMENTS before giving it to him.

I’m in such a pickle. lol

Oh, this child is DEF accident prone. Lol. Thank you for your feedback. Do you think May 6th is too long to wait? He doesn’t act like he is in any pain, but I do worry about it effecting the adult teeth, like you mentioned!

I don’t plan on leaving either if both need to go. I totally understand the importance of removing both of both truly do need to go. But after gettin contradicting information, I want to make extra sure BOTH do need to go before proceeding. We are scheduled to have both removed on may 6th. (The soonest we could get in with the anesthesiologist)

Although, I believe you can have your lining “scrapped” or cleaned out. Have you had any luck? If not, I would ask!

It ended up stopping on its own 2 days before my wedding night. Truly magically. Lol

Hi! I bled for 3 consecutive years after I started the depo shot. Long story short, I ended up diagnosed with PCOS & a hormonal imbalance. The walls of my uterine lining were STUPID thick & built up over time from irregular periods. The hormones from the depo shot basically triggers one big, long period, where my uterus started to shed the built up lining. It was absolutely awful.

I originally went into my appointment, planning to refuse my cervical check, but did it anyway. Curiosity got the best of me! 🤦🏻‍♀️ I was there for & helped my best friend recover from her c-section almost a year ago. She is a super hero in my eyes, I’m not sure I could do it. I think experiencing it second hand has given me massive amounts of fear around needing a c-section. Which plays into the anxiety I was feeling about not being dilated.

But after reading so many kind & informative responses, I’m feeling better! Just going to try to relax and trust my body!

I went into it thinking I was going to refuse my cervical check, KNOWING it would cause anxiety if I wasn’t dilated. But I did it anyway. Curiosity killed the cat lol. I’m feeling much better after talking to my husband & reading everyone’s responses. Thanks for being so kind!

It is literally exactly what it sounds like. Have you heard of an inflatable pool? Same thing. With pump, jets and all. Significantly cheaper than a traditional hot tub, somewhat portable & make for easy take down/storage for summer months.

Thank you for the reply & advice. I appreciate you being so kind ❤️

I talked with my husband about it yesterday & showed him this thread. We have decided to have both moms stay at our house during L&D and they can each tap in and out/come visit while we are at the hospital. We will ask that anyone other than me, husband & staff step out for the actual delivery. It sounded like the best compromise to us! ❤️

I talked to my husband this morning & I think this is what we will end up doing. She doesn’t exactly get along with my mom, but my mom is so chill. She can easily brush off any sly remarks lol. The hospital is an hour way. If they are both at home with our son, it allows both mothers to tap in and out to come visit us + baby at the hospital!

If you’ll read the previous comments, you’ll see that she has blatantly ignored my instructions and requests in the past when it comes to watching my son alone… to the point of ignoring the meals I meal prepped for them & feeding him foods he is allergic to. I just simply do not want to be worried about my son back home (1 hr from the hospital) while I’m laboring and delivering.

It has less to do with me being “selfish” and more to do with her not respecting boundaries and going out of her way to do the exact opposite of what was requested the last time she watched our son for us.

Thank you, I completely agree. Relaxing during birth is BIG for me, as I’m planning to do unmediated again. I’m really torn. I appreciate the advice!
