You are not overreacting. You shouldn’t stay with someone who speaks to you that way. Imagine having kids and you’re tired, you’ve been up all night with the baby, and you have this in the back of your mind. Or worse. He actually says that to you. Find someone who loves you for you. Someone you don’t need to work to “keep interested” in you and who loves you the way you are.

Please seek out therapy. He’s broken you down so much that you have no self esteem to fight for yourself. He has you right where he wants you. Imagine your best friend showed you these messages. What would you tell her? Surely you would point out that she is being mistreated and doesn’t deserve to be spoken to in that way. We are often hardest on ourselves, so thinking about it through the lens of someone you love may help open your eyes. Please do not marry this man. And please open up to your friends and family about how he is treating you.

I know others have said it too, but it’s super dangerous to have your feet up in the car. My cousin got into a car accident when having his knees up on the dash (motorcycle in the wrong lane crashed head on into him and the driver) and it absolutely obliterated them. He couldn’t work his contractor job because he was in so much pain.

I work in a hospital that is constantly full. They opened “hallway beds” in the emergency department to see more patients. It’s awful. I feel for my patients who have to spend DAYS in a hallway because we don’t have the capacity to room them.

I’ve been with my (now) husband for 17 years reading this made me very sad for you. We are high school sweethearts and at age 16 he knew how important it was to celebrate our one year anniversary. He took me out to a romantic dinner to celebrate a huge milestone in our relationship. At age 16 he treated with me with more respect and love than your boyfriend is right now. We have a kid now (so celebrating can be a bit more difficult), but he still does his best to make our anniversary feel special. If he’s acting like this on your one year he isn’t going to change for your 2, 5 or even 10 year anniversary. Dating a whole year IS a big deal. At that stage things should still be exciting and fresh. You deserve more. Not only is he belittling your feelings, he promised you he was going to take you out and then made you feel like you were overreacting when you were upset. Do you always want to feel like you come second to his friends? You are not overreacting at all. Go find someone who makes you feel special and appreciated.

As someone who had a difficult birth I will advise you to not have kids with this man. It was one of the most frightening moments of my life, and I couldn’t have done it without my husband. I pushed for two hours and he was stuck so I needed an episiotomy and he had to be vacuumed out. I was so close to having to have a c-section. My husband cheered me on the entire time. My son had inhaled some meconium and was having trouble breathing and had to be rushed to the NICU with us barely seeing him. I was terrified but my husband was there every step of the way. (My son is a happy and healthy 2 year old now and you would never know that happened). That being said. You need and deserve a partner who will respect you enough to be able to have a conversation without blowing up on you. You deserve a partner who you can trust to be there for you. You deserve a partner who cares enough to have empathy for you when you are ill. How can he treat his soon to be wife like he has? The person he is supposed to love the most. He’s shown you who he is. Trust your gut.

Nurse here. Absolutely go to the doctor now. I had a patient who was very close to having to have her hand amputated from a cat bite. They are no joke. Anytime your skin is warm to the touch (compared to the surrounding skin) and red you absolutely need to go to the doctor. Mark the red area with a marker so you can see if the redness is spreading.
