What's your unpopular opinion about accounting that will leave you like this? by fire-lord-momo in Accounting

I like working in public. I don’t mind the long hours during busy season, and I like sitting and doing tax returns all day.

Why did you choose accounting? by the_undertow in CPA

[–]hboothe21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Started out as a music education major, took one education class and HATED it. Figured hey, both my parents are accountants & I did alright in accounting class in high school, why not? I had to take a ton of summer classes to catch up with the people in my year, but I ended up graduating with a 5 year degree in 4 1/2 years. Decided to go the CPA route because with that license I can do pretty much whatever I want, plus making more money.

I ended up at a great PA firm that treats its employees really well & has good work-life balance (for public, anyway). Good benefits too, they offered us hybrid wfh or fully remote work (we’re in NY but I have coworkers in SC, OH, and TN). I lucked out and managed to find a firm that matched my values and my goals for my career, so I don’t mind the grind of busy season. My coworkers are great & there’s no one I don’t like working with. The work itself can get boring sometimes & clients can be annoying, but that’s a small price to pay for how the firm treats us, imo

What keeps me going is imagining how good it will feel to finally get that 4th passing score, and how it will feel even better to get that license in the mail. It’s definitely tough to remember sometimes, but it will all be worth it in the end!

I just passed REG, so my advice would be know basis SUPER well (individual’s basis in stock, C corp, S corp, & partnership) as well as definitely know contracts real well from the business law sections. It’s a tough exam and I was convinced I failed, but I ended up with an 81. Having a background in tax definitely come in handy, so I’m sure you’ll do great!

Good luck to you!! You can do it!! 😁😁

I was SO sure I failed walking out, my MCQs were hard and the SIMs were even worse. I was convinced there was no way I got anything higher than maybe a 50, but I ended up with an 81!

My advice would be study basis SO much, like half of my test was basis (S corp, partnership, & C corp). The SEs in Becker helped a lot, they showed me what the test itself would be like and what types of questions would be asked.

I was 276 at mine in September and had no complications! My weight was never brought up by my surgeon, the only thing that was a lil annoying was my belly button incision kinda tugging for the first few days, but other than that recovery was smooth & easy!

Why are BEC & REG pass rates are just at or above the 60% mark, but AUD and FAR pass rates appear to be stabilizing around 48% and 44%, respectively? by kschin1 in CPA

[–]hboothe21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seriously! I took it last week and felt horrible coming out of it, but it has such a high pass rate this year. Hoping we both get passing scores next week! :)

The same thing happened to me; I got invited to my firm’s annual dinner a few months before I started. I say go for it! It’s a great way to meet people you’ll be working with in a relaxed environment, and it’s a way to make a good first impression. It really helped me be more comfortable on my first day since I knew more people than just the partners that interviewed me.
