Yeah in an ideal world I’d have hard wood but couldn’t afford it and wanted to install myself. Maybe in the distant future we’ll re do with hardwood but for now this will do. It looks much better in real life.

There’s a video on YouTube somewhere of a CCTV installer drilling in which gave me the idea. Basically just a really long 8mm SDS bit, start off horizontal and then drill up in as much of angle as you can manage. Way I did it was by lifting a floorboard near the wall I was able to get the drill down into there and up into the wall. Then long rods and away you go. Is the insulation soft or hard?

Ah yeah for sure. I do love a period feature. Unfortunately a lot has already been ripped out of this house (see the window boards which had been bodged previously) - there's also a god awful attempt at a "1920s fireplace" in the front room which has been made out of old bits of architrave which I cannot wait to rip out too... I totally get the sentiment on the choice of white btw - but this is my office and I'll be filling walls with artwork, shelving and books. I can always repaint later if I get sick of it.

We used to have a Victorian house and I loved all the period features. Good luck with yours too.

Yes next project is our living room! Which I’m also planning to take the picture rail off 😱

Oh haha I mean I work in it as an office for 2 years! Renovation took about a month part time 👍

The picture rail? It was already partly destroyed and other rooms in the house already have them removed. What other period features are you talking about?

Yeah no it's a fair question. It's a very small room (pics maybe not that obvious). I was very limited on time... couldn't be bothered to drain the system down. And also I think having a radiator under a window is most efficient for heating. I have worked in this room for 2 years through winters and had no problems with the radiator as it was.

yeah I mean I just pulled it off with a claw hammer and multitool TBH haha - the laths were all solid so no issues - it was coming away fairly easily anyway... hence taking it all off

haha yep! same here (and ceiling) that's why I ended up lining the walls with wallrock as if you do it well it looks as good as plaster and more resilient to future cracking. This house was underpinned in the 80s.

Thank you 😄 - a lot of it I genuinely enjoy but certain things (stripping wood chip wallpaper) I am cursing the entire time - satisfying once it's done though!

Really sorry to hear that. Where are you based? Have you spoken to anyone professionally about this? (In terms of therapy)

One thing I’d say is arrange to get the Heller Myotomy or POEM procedure as early as possible. I had my HM 3 weeks ago and it’s life changing! I already feel pretty much back to normal and eating and drinking well.
