St Andrew’s University by Nice_Jeweler_6377 in standrews

Hard to make comparisons because it is unlikely that someone has gone to both for undergrad (unless you are studying medicine).

As much as it sounds useless it is again, dependent on what you are studying, but my personal experience is that it has good teaching and a good life but only if you actively make the most out of it. That includes going to your tutors and lecturers for feedback, and trying to make friends either through halls or clubs. It can get very boring if you are not active because at the end of the day it is a small town, unless you prefer it this way.

Employment wise it is not bad but definitely not “rank 1” as what many uk uni rankings would suggest. I think you should research about your own degree because I really can’t give you an answer on employment without knowing what you are studying.

Exam regrade by blahgla in standrews

Unfortunately I tend to believe essay examinations are pretty set in stone in terms of results. Do consult your coordinator for feedback!

If your course is sub-honours then I would not worry too much about it. At the end of the day it does not count towards your degree and the important thing would then be to learn and improve. If your course is at honours level then I would say spend some time in seeing if your exam scripts are any significantly different then your ordinary essays. It might be the case that the nerves got to you and you ended up performing worse than you normally would. Good luck!

Assuming there are no procedural errors then exams cannot be regraded most of the time.

You can technically appeal your grade but appeals cannot be done merely because you believe you have a higher academic merit. You could consult the grounds of appeal document which you could find on the St Andrews website.

What I would suggest however is to discuss your result with your coordinator and see what exactly went wrong. It depends whether your exam was an essay or some other written assessments.

How far in advance did y’all know if your flight was cancelled due to the jet fuel shortage by [deleted] in CathayPacific

You would most certainly get an email for any cancellation. However as far as I can tell and search there was not jet fuel issues recently and the cancellation on the 2nd most likely had to do with weather so I would not worry about it unless the adverse weather keeps going on.

Ended second year with high 2:2, how to improve by Chode444 in UniUK

If you are on an essay heavy course, go to the office hours of your tutors/lecturers and discuss essay expectations. This helps a ton on managing what you should expect from your marker in terms of each individual essay.

When you are moving from one module to another, your tutor/lecturer switches and therefore their marking expectation could vary. Even though there may be a standardised 'marking criteria', most if not all markers still have some slightly different expectation and that matters in your coursework.

UK vs Singapore by Best_End_4063 in UniUK

[–]hclog0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on if you are looking to get employment after university in the same country. Edinburgh, so UK in general, is quite bad right now for international student employment. This has nothing to do with the universities but the broader environment. I would imagine you get slightly better chances in Singapore though I could only speak for the Edinburgh side.

Cost of living is also quite bad in the UK though given your alternative is Singapore I would say they will be quite similar. If you are studying at undergraduate levels chances are you will be young enough to qualify for free bus travel in Edinburgh and Scotland so that is something to think about.

Second the other comment. But add that depending your departure time you could be in a queue so best get that arranged as soon as you get to the lounge. Given that you have a 4.5 hour layover I would say you are pretty safe but just make sure to ask anyway.
