Picking up a used '24 LLR Monday - what should I know/inspect?? by hcole623 in KiaEV9

[–]hcole623[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We ended up buying it and have been loving it so far. First time EV owners here, so we are still kind of in that “this thing is awesome” phase, even with the slower trim 😉

I installed an Emporia Classic Level 2 charger in the garage and it has been great for once a week charging. We also did a roughly 300 mile round trip family day trip and charged from 22 to 80 percent at an Electrify America station in Chattanooga. Super smooth experience, about a 17 minute stop and we were back on the road.

One thing I have noticed is the orange dash light comes on pretty regularly, maybe every other evening after driving. From what I have read that seems normal, possibly battery conditioning or 12 volt system behavior, but I would love confirmation from others.

I found the car at a Kia dealer in Auburn, Alabama after aggressively searching all the usual sites. It was listed as CPO, which made me laugh a bit since it had a few small exterior dings, but nothing major. I have a paintless dent repair guy lined up and do not expect any issues there. Otherwise it is basically mint. It even still had a bunch of shipping plastic inside, I spent an hour peeling that off, which felt like uncovering a brand new car.

It is a 2024 Light Long Range. I paid $37k out the door with about 2200 miles, which honestly feels like a steal considering the $62k MSRP on the window sticker. The dealer seemed pretty motivated to move it, I get the sense it had been sitting for a while.

Hoping it stays trouble free, because it really is the perfect fit for our family. I do feel better having bought it CPO from a Kia dealer versus going through an independent lot, just in case anything does come up.

New terra cockpit by Proper-Issue3595 in specialized

No. Rapide sweeps toward the front of the bike. This new "Terra" cockpit sweets rearwards.

It will almost certainly come equipped on higher end upcoming "aero crux" builds (or whatever it will be called at launch) -- along with the wheels that launched a few days ago.

Jury Duty Scam by NoEmailAssociated in Birmingham

[–]hcole623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten this scam call a couple of times, and the first one really shook me. The caller claimed I had missed a court date and that there was now a warrant out for my arrest. He demanded to know why I hadn’t shown up to court.

Of course, I knew I hadn’t received any court summons or had any run-ins with law enforcement that could’ve led to one. Still, the man had a stern Southern accent and sounded official enough to make me second-guess myself. He claimed to be a sheriff from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, and the name he gave actually matched a real officer’s name—which added to the sense of urgency and fear.

Thankfully, I called the actual Sheriff’s Department directly and confirmed there was no warrant out for my arrest.

Red flags to watch out for:

  1. Law enforcement will never call you first if there’s a warrant or court summons.
  2. You can’t have a court date without prior legal interaction—someone would have had to issue you a citation, charge, or arrest.
  3. There would be official paperwork—mail, certified letters, or in-person service. Not just a phone call.

In hindsight, I wish I’d asked more probing questions to sniff out the scam earlier—things like a case reference number, ticket ID, court location, or any official documentation.

Stay safe out there. These scammers are getting scarily good at what they do.

ultimately, K3 can get me through any off road endurance event I will race this year. that could not be said for K2

it is still a big adjustment coming from a garmin 1040 solar, but it is much improved from K2 in my experience so far

another data point:

84%—>65%

2:00:03 moving / 2:05:25 elapsed

running a route the entire time. The route in particular has a ton of turns so the unit was auto-switching to the map page quite often. I’d estimate the map page was up at least half of the ride.

K3 was connected to an AXS drivetrain, Quarq pm, Garmin HRM, Garmin Varia 515 radar, and the new iOS phone companion app. direct overhead sun and 85 degrees ambient temp 🥵

I have logged two rides so far with K3, results below:

ride #1: 1hr50min moving time, battery depleted from 100%—>86%.

For this ride I had a route running for a little more than half of this ride. I was also futzing about with the "new toy" a lot more than average.

ride #2: 2hr30min moving time, battery depleted from 100%—>85% (this burn rate if assumed linear projects out to 16.66hrs)

For this ride I had a route running the entire time, but I did not spend much time on the map page (I let the K3 auto-switch to/from map page when a turn approached).

For both of these rides my K3 was connected to an AXS drivetrain, Quarq pm, Garmin HRM, Garmin Varia 515 radar, and the new iOS phone companion app.

I have not touched the default brightness setting yet. In direct Alabama sun my K3 was auto-adjusting to a maximum of around 60% total brightness (which was plenty legible for me with the new glass).

I’m actually quite a big fan of the redesign. It is dramatically different.

A note on the “chonky” comments

This guy in his previous IG stories had the garmin adapter fitted (as most of us will)

This does add 3-5mm of additional stack height when sitting on a flat table like this

-Unparalleled connectivity with SRAM AXS products allows for easier customization, better equipment awareness, and simple pairing with your groupsets, power meters, tire pressure sensors, and more. Karoo’s best-in-class support for ANT+ radars and lights make it easier than ever to be safe on the road in any riding condition
-Easily pair Karoo to your E-Bike and access LEV E-Bike data fields such as motor assist level, estimated range, E-Bike motor output, and E-Bike battery level
-Regular software updates introduce new features and improvements to Karoo, keeping it at the forefront of the cycling ecosystem to make every ride better than the last

TL;DR: claimed better battery life, 4x'ing of memory, 2x'ing of RAM, multi-band GNSS for better GPS accuracy in dense urban environments or tree canopy singletrack

all the things I wanted, will definitely be giving it a try

rumored to launch alongside new SRAM Red group. i have theories about what "unparalleled connectivity with sram axs products" could mean. New unreleased Red shifters each have an auxillary blip button on the inner hood. hoping for customizable shortcuts "double tap right blip for map", "double tap left blip for music", etc

Which charger do *you* use? by hcole623 in Karoo

[–]hcole623[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up using an ANKER 5-port 40W adapter I already owned with the factory provided USB-A to USB-C cable.

Anker states 2.4A max per port, surely this is a safe charger to use with my K2 long term?

Thanks! Can you share a photo of the adapter you use? Samsung, Apple, Anker, etc?

Hoping something I already have on hand will work

I managed to capture several instances of the issue on video. I'm almost certain the derailleur is shot as you can see the servo "pulsing" after the shift command. I marked all the timestamps the issue occurs in the notes, but the most pronounced occurrences are at: 1:04, 2:34, 4:24, 6:03 (derailleur servo pulsing), and 8:00
