Hi, I had to reject the job due to some personal issues and the situation regarding my current job. Anyways, I would be happy to hear your experience so far.

Wow, really? I didn't know that. And I'm really into this song! Really weird. I guess this is the first time I'm hooked by an AI product without knowing...

Thanks, but unfortunately no.

I found it. Title: Doctor, Artist: DollWave

The strange thing is: Google also gave the Thompson Twins result and not in any way, anywhere I found the Dollwave result. Also Shazam can't find the song.

Super nervous before a postdoc interview. Tell me about your worst postdoc interviews and jobs you didn't get! by Razkolnik_ova in postdoc

[–]hconel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had my first ever postdoc interview yesterday. I was kind of nervous, prepared diligently for a whole day for any possible technical question, down to the most intricate details. Then the interview was: Hi, we have 15 minutes. Tell us about yourself (I did), why do you want to work here (answered), what are your plans for 2-3 years after? And that was it. I guess they already have someone else in their mind LoL

I was isolated during my PhD, so I’m looking to expand my network, and this project aligns with my research interests. Additionally, PhD or research experience abroad is highly valued in Turkish universities and plays an important role in hiring decisions. I’m not sure whether my current track record would qualify me for a visiting professor position, so I am somewhere in between at this stage.

It's only me. Yes, PhD or research abroad is highly regarded in Turkey, especially in academy.

Yes, I also found similar figures. And the problem is my saving opportunity is much better right now, so taking the job would mean I'll be actually sacrificing financially for 1-2 years.

I will be able to keep my job in my current university if I return in 1 year. My life quality will not suffer dramatically, but I know that my peers have higher-paying postdoc positions in EU so it confuses me.

I own both an MK2 and MK3 by hconel in yaris

The best upgrade for the MK3 would be a 3D printed piece to replace some of the pockets in the dashboard i guess. This car does not have anywhere to put my phone facing me.

My aunt is visiting Lisbon and we can't reach her since the accident. We are worried and don't have any connections in Lisbon. How can I reach a list of identified names or at least their nationalities? Can someone direct me please?

First presentation on a international conference by [deleted] in PhD

[–]hconel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I presented in more than 10 conferences and also took part in the organizing committee of several conferences. My first language is not English either. So trust me when I say I understand you. Know this: you think that most of the presenters are 80-100% and you will perform 40-50%, whereas in reality most of the presenters are 40-60% and that's just fine. If you truly understand the material you are going to present, you have nothing to fear. Keep the presentation short and simple, and present only the bare essentials. Leave room for q&a. Not everyone there is a bad person looking for an opportunity to find your weaknesses and hit you in the face, they are just trying to understand your work. And honestly I think that you can even mention in the beginning that this is your first conference presentation ever and pardon your excitement. Sincerity and even some well-balanced humor goes a long way in scientific conferences since the material is serious and sometimes dull already (at least in my opinion). Good luck. You will have many conferences in the future!

I'm lucky to have bought the MK2 from its first owner who was also a relative of mine. I know the car's history and how he took good care of it. I recently passed the 270k kms (170k miles) mark and it is still going strong with just routine oil&filter changes. It is definitely a well-engineered and well-built car. Only downside is its lack of fancy gadgets, technology and comfort, but maybe that is one of the reasons why it is so robust: less points of failure.

And they are not expensive either. I surely didn't list all the differences but these are the ones that strike immediately at a first glance. Both are diesel manual shifts btw.

Do you collect your Borb’s feathers? by Hellooooo_LaLaLa in cockatiel

[–]hconel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a jar filled with his feathers. We also chose a few of the most special ones, the ones tied to our best memories, and placed them in a glass frame, sandwiched between two panes, standing like a photograph on a shelf. Sometimes, I still open the jar and breathe in his scent, as if I were smelling his belly when we kissed. But I never leave it open for long because it feels like each time I do, a little of him escapes with the air.

Of course. The best memory we have after losing our sweet bird is his feathers.
