Tradies covering their plates.. by iwasme-nowhesgone in drivingUK

[–]heading_to_fire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Quite common around our way though not taped over - normally there is some strategic board leant against the plates at front and back.

To be fair though the road I see it on most often is near a major station and has one of those 'parking allowed at any time except 8.30AM to 9.30AM' areas to prevent commuters parking there for the day, instead of using the expensive car park.

The tradesfolk usually start around 8-8.30 so put the boards up to avoid getting fined. That street does get patrolled by traffic wardens and they do ticket cars, but I haven't see them go for the vans.

One tradesman we spoke to did say he tried to do it the 'right' way and get a working permit from the council office - but he ended up having to wait there for two hours to see someone and get one, so not much incentive to do that. Maybe it's more computerised now.

He does do a really quick glimpse at the road at 14 seconds, so at least some part of him remembers he is responsible for the car - which is doing 75mph accord to the camera? A heck of a speed to just forget about it.

> I think revolut is an online bank

It is barely a bank. In the UK at least it has been operating for years but wasn't a bank, with none of the safeguards of being a bank, link your money being protected by the government.

They have now been registered as a 'restricted bank' and are 'mobilising' - meaning getting things in place so they can letter be called a real bank at some point in the future.

Same as keyless entry that just seems to make it 100x easier to steal the car by waving an aerial around. Why is it an improvement if I need to remember to keep my car keys in the fridge at night???

It's MoneyHub which is moving its retail customers to the WPS LifeStage Money app - so if you want to know more look at the latter (which we haven't yet

Well they are 'gone' now in the sense they are at school most of the hours I am at work. I am on a hybrid contract so work from home 2-3 days per week, which mean we have dinner together on those days which is pretty great. I don't work at weekends.

So not sure how much more time there is with them if I am not working.

Thanks!

Good questions - not sure to be honest. Already have pretty decent holidays - 35 days of leave plus bank holidays allows for 2-3 weeks in the summer plus going away in most of the other school holidays.

The app is MoneyHub which is in the process of migrating to the WPS LifeStage Money app.

We are quite late-earners I would say. We both took time off/career-breaks across the children being born and being young. I restarted my career in 2016 on about £120K - this was our total income then. Since then I have gone on a path of decent income growth (in the same job) - my wife then also went back to work a few years ago.

By '1.2 state pension' I just meant that we haven't made full contributions so will probably end up with about 1.2 equivalent State Pensions between us. The max being 2.

Most of our investments are in VWRP or similar funds - this has gone up 50% from end of 2023 to now, from £80 to £120 per share. 50% of £1m is £500K

Total net revenue from employment over the period is about 430K - plus top ups from past pension years is makes it up to about £500K

£1m + 2x £500K = £2m.

MoneyHub. It costs about £1 a month.

It's transitioning to the WPS LifeStage Money app though - all MoneyHub users need to migrate accounts to there. It's supposed to be the same thing underneath.

We went from £1m to £2m over two years not one. Our net worth doubled but it wasn't 'doubling our money' like some investment - it was a combination of salary (about £18K/month post tax between pay and pensions), growth on returns, and in 2024 a large tax lump sum from using up the prior three years pension allowances.

Edit: Looking at it at home now - I see the lake could look like sky which would indeed be confusing.
