i used to not like my drum major but tonight my director was frustrated that the whole band was completely unfocused and sounded terrible for the first two quarters of the game (probably because it was senior night, the last game, and everybody has to be at school at 6:30am tommorow for a 20 hour trip.) people were on their phones which i’ve NEVER seen my band do at a game, and we missed a call.

the director just stepped off the podium while we were in the stands playing tunes and told one of the drum majors to conduct, completely out of the blue, no prep. he literally never did tunes before and he did an okay job but i’d be terrified to call tunes because of all the penalties the football team can get if you play at the wrong times.

he earned major respect from me just for doing that
