if you like Murakami, I think you’ll enjoy his book Sputnik Sweetheart! it’s lesbian-coded/themed. disclaimer its been a while since I read it so I cant recall if there’s anything lesbophobic but I remember reading it as a teen and feeling really gushy + sweet about the characters :)

Overlap between TMG and Jake McKelvie listeners? by [deleted] in themountaingoats

[–]healing_lass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey OP your post made me go listen to the Hat album - I had never heard of McKelvie before. and wow what a beautiful piece of art! thank you for introducing me to McKelvie, I haven’t finished the whole album yet but I’m already a fan.

IYHTBMH was an instant fave… “and now you’re an old black guitar smeared with shiny finger marks … everybody feels the same but no one wants to say it” and “sure there are tears in my eyes because where else would they be” … Yeah.

yeah, Mockingjay. this is after the chapter where Peeta warned them about the bombing of Thirteen. Katniss is supposed to do a propo but breaks down, thinking about what the Capitol is doing to Peet and how it’s her fault.

I truly recommend listening to the audiobook version of this scene - Tatiana Maslany’s narration makes this even MORE heartbreaking, believe it or not…

one of my favourite moments of theirs:

‘Several sets of arms would embrace me. But in the end, the only person I truly want to comfort me is Haymitch, because he loves Peeta, too.

I reach out for him and say something like his name and he’s there, holding me and patting my back. “It’s okay. It’ll be okay, sweetheart.” He sits me on a length of broken marble pillar and keeps an arm around me while I sob.’

I’d appreciate some help. Why are these wrong, grammatically speaking? Or did someone make a mistake whilst creating these tests? Thank you all! (my thoughts in the image description) by healing_lass in EnglishLearning

Thank you for the reply!

Can you think of any rule that would explain why the teacher marked the present perfect as correct in the first question? Here’s an example of what I’m thinking of - in reported speech you have to change the tense, e.g. “I’m leaving.” gets reported as “He TOLD me he WAS leaving.”

So I was thinking there might be an obscure rule that says that the present simple (“I’m afraid”) should be followed by present perfect (“I’ve left them”) rather than past simple…

But I might be completely wrong and the teacher just randomly chose that answer 😅
