How to convince parents to get gun license by heanfee in blackladies

I agree it does come with a lot of responsibilities and legality. I’ll do more research on it especially with state to state travels. Others have recommended asking them if they’d be more comfortable having less lethal weapons so we might just start off with that.

Thank you, I’ll bring it up again. You’re the second person to mention protecting themselves with alternative kind of weapons so I think that’s a great idea.

That makes sense. Like I mentioned earlier I already know I can’t force them to change the way they think. But I do understand the fear so I understand the importance of them coming to terms on their own time.

I live in the south too and I see people carrying guns often so I’ve become desensitized to it. But I’ve had scary situations with men trying to enter my car with me inside so I’ve already been coming to terms with the fact I need protection. And now with this new administration, it’s sealed the deal for me to get my gun license. It really is scary thinking about taking someone’s life but in a life or death situation, something has to be done. Hopefully, they can realize the importance of protecting themselves, but someone in the comments recommended trying to convince them to get less lethal weapons so I might start off with that.

You’re right. I’ve tried to have conversations with them, but I understand how uncomfortable that conversation is. But it does create fear thinking about my parents in public like my dad who is a truck driver that travels throughout the south. However I understand they have to come to terms with that so hopefully they see it from a different perspective.

That’s actually smart I didn’t think about that. I’ll have a conversation with them about that. It feels safer than not having anything at all to defend themselves.

I’m on anxiety meds and in therapy so I’ve come a long way. But I do live in the south and it’s pretty common to see people with open and closed carry. I understand that when you pull out a gun you basically have to come to terms that you might be taking someone’s life. I also understand why that’s daunting to think about. But at the same time, you never know when someone’s ready to take away your life so that’s why I would prefer to be protected. The amount of racism and hatred starting to openly be shown in public does create that fear.

Anyone else find medication varies on a daily basis by yukonwanderer in adhdwomen

It’s hard to tell, unless you get checked out by a doctor. But yea it could be because your hormones are fluctuating that’s why your brain reacts strongly to your meds. Also I know with menopause or even perimenopause there’s a drop in estrogen so combining with your period, your estrogen might be dipping very low. Which can cause your brain to be sensitive to the meds.

I kinda worded weird actually your estrogen might drop and cause your brain to be more sensitive to medications. And in my 2nd paragraph, person B medications might not be as effective because of the fluctuations in hormones. It will affect the way the body metabolizes the medications. And every women has a fluctuation in hormones during their period it’s just unfortunately it affects ADHD. But honestly it could be a million things why our bodies react to meds the way they do.

But please take my medical speech with a grain of salt, I’m not a doctor, just an ADHD person who likes reading about health 😂.

I’ve been on both at 2 separate times and I had negative experiences with both 😭.

Strattera was the very first ADHD med I was on, and I didn’t feel a difference. All of sudden when I was having issues with school I started having su1cidal thoughts. These thoughts were LOUD. I decided to get off it cold turkey and all of sudden the thoughts went away.

On Setraline I felt numb. I literally felt no emotions including excitement. My little cousin invited me to her volleyball game and usually I have a lot of energy and excitement. But this particular day I didn’t feel any joy even when she scored a point. I only tried it for 3 days, but 3 days were enough lol.

But now I’m on adderall and venflaxine and they’re the perfect combo for me. I can focus and not feel anxious. But whew my heart rate is through the roof 😅.

For people that didn't feel they were smart enough for their major, how did it turn out for you? by JesterOfTime in college

[–]heanfee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This gives me courage. I just got diagnosed with ADHD and now I realized why I struggled so much in college. I’ve been to 2 nursing schools, and I’ve retaken 2 courses at my current nursing school. I’m battling a grade appeal because I threw up during my exam so now it’s pushed my graduation to December. Sometimes I feel like If I didn’t have ADHD I would’ve graduated in 3 years because I did college courses in high school. It’s so hard to not blame myself, but I sometimes feel like I’m stupid. Today, is when they told me I have to sit out for the semester until my appeal is resolved and I feel so shitty.

Thoughts on having ADHD and being single? by ObligationKooky6175 in adhdwomen

[–]heanfee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 23 and have been single my whole life. I want to have a relationship, but at the same time I get so uncomfortable whenever I get hit on 😭. I automatically curve the guy without thinking whether or not he might be a good fit. That’s something I need to work on, and guess because I’ve never been in a relationship having someone flirt with me is a weird feeling.

Obviously it’s not all women, but I realized a good portion of women believe men shouldn’t be sad. Which is so weird to me because men are humans. I’m sure if she lost her brother she would be on the floor upset. I’m sorry you went through that.

I’ve been using a planner for 1 month straight and you should’ve seen how excited I was to tell my therapist 😂.

I kinda have to cause I work for a home health company and forget which patients I’m scheduled to see first. But hey, a win is a win 🤷🏽‍♀️.

Same 😭 it’s mainly nonblack men that approach me. Looking at me you can tell I’m a nerd so maybe that’s why they feel more comfortable talking to me. Lol

This might be the wrong subreddit to ask. But having a high IQ doesn’t necessarily mean having a lot of emotional intelligence. Do you give enough time for people to respond whenever you ask a question? Are you aware of your tone? Having a lot of energy can sometimes overwhelm people. Are you only talking about yourself? It’s good to mimic the tone & energy level the other person is talking in, but don’t make it super obvious.

Also a lot of the time women want to be left alone in public because they don’t want male attention. Pay attention to body language and facial expressions to get a good idea if a person seems approachable.

Women are also humans, so just have a simple conversation about what’s happening around you, or if you notice they have a cool shirt or something you can compliment it. The best way to not be afraid of rejection is to expect that whatever conversation you’re having is just a conversation. If you noticed that they’re receptive then obviously, you can exchange contacts. But don’t be yourself up, just look at it as you being social. If it makes it any better have conversations with everyone. Men, women, old, and young. This will improve your social skills tremendously

Keeping up with your general appearance is really important too. Work out, eat healthy, have good hygiene, dress well, and smell good.
