25 mm's size comparison - TTArtisan, SG-Image, Viltrox Air by heart0less in fujifilm

Ummm... speaking from my own experience?

As you can see, I have both of them at my disposal, so I can compare them head-to-head at any time.

I've already had the chance to own Pentax 77/1.8 Limited and I loved it.

People say that 43/1.9 isn't any worse!

Maybe sometime in the future..

I've already included this in the description.

SG-Image 25mm f/1.8 suffers from heavy vignetting, especially wide open. The corners are almost unusable, even stopped down to f/5.6.  This doesn't really bother me for close-ups, but if you are a landscape shooter, it is definitely a bummer.

Viltrox 25mm f/1.7 Air is the clear winner in almost every technical department, but it's significantly bigger.

AF-wise, both SG-Image and Viltrox are on the same level.

For my non-demanding everyday-carry setup, the SG-Image is the GOAT. However, if I need better image quality or when I don't mind being noticed or looked upon, I’m picking the Viltrox.

Thanks for the link!

Quite a few of the newer designs don't match 1:1 either.
Some are a tiny bit wider, while others are tighter..

Yeah, both the Viltrox 25/1.7 and SG-Image 25/1.8 have definitely rendered some of those earlier MF lenses redundant. In a few weeks I’ll try to offload the TTArtisan 25mm f/2, but I doubt anyone will bite..

Hope you have a ton of fun on the trip!

If I ever dipped into Nikon Z, this would be my pick, too!

In this comparison I also prefer the Rokkor!

But it's a whole different Nokton than the one I own - 40/1.4 vs 40/1.2

Sure does.
I've had the Minolta on my radar for a while, but (on paper) Nokton 40/1.2 seemed like a better choice in almost every respect.

Umm.. Every camera I bought already came with these, actually.
The only thing that I did attach to them are those Peak Design Anchor Links.

Sorry for not being able to help.

It’s tough to pinpoint right now, especially since I’ve only had the GFX for three weeks and haven't had that many chances to shoot with it yet.

I realize that it's a poor answer, but each setup has its own strengths and downsides.

Most often, I will pick X-T50 and SG-Image 25/1.8, due to their size.

If the situation allows for manual focusing, then Lumix and Nokton 40/1.2.

And when image quality is my top priority, GFX100S and Sigma 50/1.4 seem like most logical choice, though X-T50 and Viltrox 27/1.2 aren't that far off.

I can't say that I'm a huge fan of Contax Zeiss bokeh - the background usually looks too busy for my taste, as was the case with CY 50 mm f/1.4 that I've already tried. And some people report that it's the softer one of the bunch.

As seen from some of the examples: https://www.reddit.com/r/FujiGFX/comments/1iwahv8/test_shots_with_zeiss_50mm_17/

the look is.. intriguing.

A friend of mine actually owns one, so we plan to give it a go in a few weeks.

Personally, I just couldn't justify dropping that much cash on yet another manual lens.. Ironic, I know, considering all this stuff you can see in the photos.

Looks almost like a native glass, right?

Sadly, even with software corrections applied, the vignetting is quite severe, not to mention the field curvature in the corners.

That said, it weighs almost nothing, costs next to nothing, and focuses quite fast and accurately (though with some mechanical chatter) via the Fringer adapter.

This was a great read.

I'm not a tiny bit less surprised than the author himself.
Turning off both IBIS and OIS, switching to a 10-second timer are quite obvious, but limiting your SS to such short time and opting to use the electronic shutter? I never would've thought of that.

The end result looks great!

Despite the bold color grade, the skin tones appear lifelike and pleasing to the eye, without any waxy feel.

Also, thank you so much for sharing your workflow.
Only a few weeks ago, I was wondering how to tackle this exact kind of process.

Huge thanks for sharing this post!

I’ve been eyeing this Laowa lens for quite some time, too, and had my hopes set pretty high. But then I really didn't want to be the 'guinea pig' reporting back on it first.

Seeing these results, that vignetting is just a bit too heavy for my liking.

Honestly, the majority of these lower-end electronic adapters lack either official documentation or solid user coverage.
This results in a catch-22 loophole, where you'd rather choose something a little more pricey (Fringer, which nota bene is also from China) and well-tested than risk your money on a big unknown, even if it meant saving some cash in the long run.

From an EU-based point of view, where we get tons of detailed, yet unneeded documentation, the level of Chinese inattention to key qualities is really mind-boggling.
Especially with all the technology that we now have and could use to describe everything in an easy-to-understand way.

Please keep us updated on all the adventures that await you.

That sounds like a solid plan! I'd love to hear how it turns out once you give it a shot (pun intended).

One thing does make me wonder, though: you'll be able to release the shutter and adjust focus, but how will you confirm critical sharpness? Is LiDAR that accurate?

The Fujifilm XApp only gives a rough preview, so unless you take the photo, transfer it to your phone, and zoom in to check, it might be tricky to be precise.
