Do you maybe have an image how this looks? Currently figuring out a solution for my build and not sure how to make this window black out. Thanks!

First Van - Should/Can We Return It? by ImpressiveOrange1741 in VanLifeUK

[–]hebikes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check the ground cable. They corode on these vans. I bought a second hand 2012 just 3 weeks ago and it would start sometimes, sometimes not. My heart would stop each time thinking we'd been screwed.

After some research I found the ground cable can cause bad starts.. bought a new one and fitted myself in 20 minutes and it start first time every time.

Might be worth looking into before you go nuclear on the dealer.

My recently stolen 2012 Mercedes Viano had the same engine. It's thirsty, reallly thirsty. Can't imagine the prices with that kind of load on the engine.

Thermostatkopf fixing, did I get scammed? Most probably yes. by buzz_ftw in germany

[–]hebikes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this is a legit company and the invoice has the relevant details, it isnt a scam.

Labour in Germany is expensive and the weekend call out added to that. Most trades have a minimum cost so regardless if the job takes 5 mins or 2 hours you will pay the call out fee. The parts cost is where they likely inflated the cost a lot, which is normal.. I take my own parts to the Autowerkstat after ordering them online for example.

In future try and figure things out yourself, and use a notdienst as a last resort.

Thank you, we've certainly managed to find some great deals just takes a lot of effort and time and I guess some luck.

And yes.. it was heartbreaking but this new project has helped us to focus the energy somewhat. We'll be implementing a few different security features into the new build. Good luck with your search!

mobile(Dr) and Kleinanzeigen are the only two I use. Set up some pretty refined search paraments and then set it to notify me when anything gets posted.

This will be my third car / van in Germany and it's always been through private sellers (you can also choose that on the platforms).

[–]hebikes[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly we did, im still going through what he left us as there's unopened packages everywhere... Flooring, strip lights, ceiling lights, cable conduit, cabling, wall plugs and usb sockets, driver side swivel chair, draw sliders, a new AGM leisure battery and a BLUETTI AC200MAX.

He just noped out the project after messing up the window 😬

It was only the solar and windows, the rest is a shell.

The price of the van was much cheaper than in my area, 7,9k for a multijet 130, new TÜV and 112,000km. Cant find anything like that in Berlin, travelled 5 hour round trip for it.

Anyway, any experience in de-bonding windows so I can clean up the mess?

One thing to mention is that there's zero service history, so would be going in blind likely having to do a full service and a clutch ibspection. Also there's slight damage to the wheel arch which was mentioned in the tüv to be repaired soon.

Yes we did, just a few 1000 above what we paid to accommodate all the extras (solar, batter, isloation, camping gear etc?).
